I love the idea of mining but due to my bad sight, its just not possible because of (imo) the stupid mechanic of having to scoop it all up. It doesn't need to pay more really, but like the docking computer there should be an option for a tractor beam, you could balance it pretty easy with cost and make it take up some of that cargo space, Something like 500km range and slow collect with class A being fastest drag and module size being how far the tractor range would be.
