Is module exchanging possible?

Good morning commanders. o7

So here's the problem, a friend who started the game not long ago just bought a Cobra MKIV, he went to a system (EEA) where there's no shipyard in it, but he outfitted a class 3 FSD, so he can jump only 6ly max and now he's stuck in this system.. So I wonder if I bought a ship with a class 4 FSD, sell it at the same station (outpost actually) he is docked, will he see it in his outfitting screen?

Thanks commanders, fly safe. o7

Try removing everything non essential from the ship and assuming he's fitted a 3A FSD that'd push the range to almost 7 LY

Assuming that there is outfitting (else how did he change his Fsd) - he can also downgrade things like sensors, life support etc to D modules (the lightest).

No this won't work at all. Can he (You) post his ship loadout on here so we can see if we can advise a way out by making the ship as light as possible. Also where he is at the moment?

Well if there's no way for me to give him a module then he's screwed..
I made a full jump range optimized fitting for him already, he can't get more than 6,82ly with a A3 FSD, his nearest system is at 8ly minimum..

How could he get there in the first place?
Maybe he needs to get rid of some fuel to extend jump range.

What station is he at now? I might be asking the stupid question here, but he has no Cargo????? Has he tried navigating via economical route and not fastest route? Excuse me if asking the dumb questions, but they have to be asked as they could have been over looked!

Well he had the original FSD when he went here, the E4, it offers a longer jump range than the A3, but when he came in the sytem he wanted to upgrade his FSD, thinking that the A3 would be better as it is more expensive (he's new on Elite so begginner mistake).
I'm gonna check if the EEA system have a planet where we could find some materials, otherwise there's no other way for him.. Maybe he could send a ticket to Frontier?

He haves no cargo, and the system he tried to jump is the closest possible to where he is. It's just a FSD jump range problem, and a module non-available at the outpost where he is.. :/

Sending a ticket seems reasonable as without a shipyard he's essentially stuffed unless there's somewhere else in system that he can go to to find alternative equipment.

There's a potential alternative of self-destructing, and then from the rebuy screen not selecting the a3 FSD for the replacement, but I'm not even sure that that would work, and it involves rebuy cost which is a fairly naff workaround.

That's the question - how did he get there?

If he got there, he can go back the same way. Knowing which system he's in might also be useful.

Do you have Horizons? Maybe you find some materials for an FSD boost...

This was already covered : he can't go back the same way as his new drive has less range. He can't rebuy the old drive, or buy a different ship.

So:

- he jumped in
- he mistakenly switched his FSD
- he tried to jump out and realized his mistake
- by which time the window to buy back his old FSD has expired, and the outfitter doesn't stock any larger FSDs per default

Yes, sounds like you might ask support.

So there is an Outfitting There? If so sell everything, or D class it. Make it light and an A3 FSD will get you out of the pooh!

One other brutal way out (you'll lose the Cobra, though) would be to destroy the cobra and accept the Sidey as replacememt.

I'll try, but I don't know if there's the required planet in Eea for that.. I'll check in some hours.

Yup', you got it right commander. If there's no planet here then he will contact Frontier. :)

Thanks for your answers Commanders, fly safe! o7

Sell everything you can first and fit the smallest modules available where you can't remove them and you'll minimise the loss. If you can really get it down to the bare minimum the loss will be in the region of 640k Cr.
