Is muticrew dead or having issues?

The large majority of people don't join random crews.

Some will join people off their friends lists, but it's way less problematic and more effective to wing up in your own ships and work towards a group goal.

With a popular combat type Community Goal I find quite a few players want to join. Other than that I don't use it much.

Why would I want to be crew, when I can fly my own ship??
Give us NPC crew, and drop this silly mechanic.
Using multicrew I was able to pilot my ship while my mum was on my son's machine using the VR headset to take in the views - I went for a scenic cruise around Shinrarta, though in hindsight I wished I had gone to Sol. She is not a videogamer by any stretch, my childhood gaming memories with her are "clean up that mess", "I hope you're not going to leave all that there", and "if you're finished take it back upstairs', stuff like that lol. Anyway, she was suitably impressed with the VR I have to say. So, maybe not the primary intended use of Multicrew, but I recommend it for others and definitely don't want it to go away, even if I agree that having NPCs traveling with you would be great to have.

Ok, maybe I went a bit far.. 🤷‍♂️ I'm sure its an enjoyable experience for some, it's just disheartening that FDev is insistent on limiting its use to multiplayer only. This approach seems to be an attempt to encourage players to engage with others, yet it has not been very successful. I think most players would prefer to pilot their own ship and have the option to utilize NPC crews instead. We don't even need any extra pips. Leave that as an extra bonus for multiplayer. Just put the crewmate in the extra seat, and have him/her reply with voice when we leave ship, or when recalling ship and other such activities.

I got 3 people(at once) yesterday for AX. It depends a lot on timing, and when you play.

Also, it's hard to get someone in when you're in an instance hosted by someone with a bad connection. They need to connect to both of you, and that usually fails. It's a lot of fun when it does work, though.

Multi-crew is like CQC. It's not used as much as it could be. It's really fun in the fighters in multi-crew or with a crewman flying the ship. I'd love to know how people are doing AXI in Multicrew, because if I remember rightly you can't target thargoid hearts.

The main issue I've found with Multi-crew is the gunner role. People didn't like the 360 3rd person camera, whey were hoping for a More Millennium Falcon Gunner experience like in X-wing Alliance. There was also the fact that you can only have one gunner and the pilot can't assign weapons for the gunner. I would like it to mimic the fighter mechanic, so you could have your NPC pilot fly the ship while you take the unnar role, but I suspect that, even with the ability to sub target taken away, it would be too over powered
