Is my cobra good for piracy?

I have recently gotten interested in piracy, but didn't have enugh money to buy a high level pirate ship. So i tried my best to make a sutable Cobra MK. III. Here is what made:

If you have any tips or want to point out something, feel free to do so.

Depends who you are trying to pirate, lol. You can pick on unarmed traders all day long. (and probably make them log off to go to private or solo. Which is where they should have been in the first place.)
If you go up against a big well armed trader it might not go so well for you. Not many people properly defend a trade ship though. Most go for max capacity and jump range.

I know how to do basic stuff, like disabeling ther powerplant to make my job easier, I am just asking for tips about my build.

PvP or PvE?

If it's PvE then you should be ok with that load out. I might switch the weaponry around and put the weapons on each side, so have a class 2 and class 1 laser on one side and a class 2 and class 1 multi on the other. This way you solve the divergent issue the Cobra 3 suffers from. You could save power by losing the collectors and practice combat scooping. It does suck but you could use the extra slots to fit HRP or MR. You will get shot at so module priorities are essential.
As far as Engineering goes, make the drives as dirty as possible for getaway purposes. Get used to using silent running to break scanner locks but remember within a few hundred yards this doesn't work.

If the loadout is for PvP then swap the manifest scanner for a booster, you won't need it if you are at a CG. You probably don't need the wake scanner either. If you engineer the powerplant you should be able to fit something with more stopping power like rails or plasma plus all the other things you need.

The Piracy discord is a useful source of information. Give me a minute and I'll find it.

Edit: This link should take you to the Piracy Discord. Be warned, some of these guys are bad hombres ;)

I am hunting for AI mining ships. Most likely something small.

You'll do fine against small prey in this thing, OP. Haulers, T-6's, even Asps and T-7s as long as they are ranked low.

Why don't you go two small lasers and two medium MCs? Also, always equip B collectors if you can manage - they have a shorter lifetime, but their range is better.

*edit*

Oh, and unless you are going into the rings to find prey, you're going to need an interdictor. Just FYI, most of the miners I find in rings carry crap cargo, but YMMV.

One last thing, OP, check it out....

To get started easily, go pirate small Wanted ships in Low Security systems. Many of the ships that spawn in Low Sec are wanted, and you can find lots of the ones I mentioned carrying good cargo. And since they are wanted you can do whatever you want without the cops showing up.

Also, while you're looking for targets, make sure to drop into degraded USS. You can find some nice salvage commodities in those.

Personally I don't bother with weapons against pve. I just shield tank while firing breakers. If you stay still, the trader will keep firing at you while stopped, so the cargo won't spread. Works nice; but need at least a type 6 , as you need 2 collectors and a breaker to be efficient. And verify if target has PD before interdicting.

Maybe against another Cobra, or a Sidewinder and then only if properly outfitted and maybe even engineered. The Cobra is a small ship for (figuratively) getting you to a place where you can afford to purchase better ships. Yes, it can do anything in the game on the very small scale but you need to be realistic in your expectations i.e.: do not take on a Python or Vulture, etc. in your Cobra and expect to get away with it. o7

As others have said, loose the wake scanner and add in a interdictor.
in my personal experience I found the wake scanner never really useful, unless you are hunting a really big bounty that just jumped away it is often not worth it chasing the prey to different system and find it there again.

I would swap out the small multi cannon for another laser, but that is mostly as i like symmetry in my builds.

Doing this made a huge difference for me with my Cobra combat. Fixed beams on the left, MCs on the right.

Cobra are good for priacy yeah.

Gotta say, the cobra always seemed fairly poor for piracy as far as I am concerned. Poor hardpoint convergence, poor internals - the lack of C3 slot really hurts it.

The Viper Mk IV is much better save for the lower speed, and in PvE that doesn't matter so much.

As this cobra goes though, I would personally recommend a C2 laser and all cannons elsewhere. You wanna be able to take subsystems out. You won't be chasing any targets through systems, so remove the wake scanner in favour of a resistant shield booster, chaff or a PD. Also, them C4 slots can take bigger than C3 cargo racks ;)
