Is Odyssey broken?

New player here.

Got the big package with the three games. Started with Elite Dangerous....had fun....moved on to Horizon...even more fun and the game looks and plays great...then to Odyssey.......HUH?

Why does Odyssey look so crappy? Harsh, high contrast lighting, over-saturated colors in stations, planet textures that look just plain awful...etc. Adjusted setting Low/Med/High...no help.

Some nice things like the galaxy map remake, the FSD hyperspace animation, the mission screens, but when it came to the Holo-Me, the interior/exterior of stations, and trying to add decals to my suit...well, it's either broken or looks really bad. What happened to the engine afterburner output in the store? It looks muted now making colors pointless if you want to buy them.

I started messing with my video card setting and monitor settings thinking it was not set up right, then I realized HEY! This was perfect with Horizon, so why do I need to tweak it now?

Was the 3d-engine completely remade and if so, why? Rule of thumb: if it's not broke, dont fix it.

Then I saw that Odyssey was release in May and is already on its 6th patch...that said it all. Six patches in 3 months? This game was not ready for prime-time IMO.

I'll be going back to Horizon and putting Odyssey back on the shelf. I'll check it out again maybe a year from now to see if anything has changed.

I couldn't help but think of the Eve-Online debacle when they attempted to get out of their spaceships with in station walking and such. Showed us great demos. It bombed so badly they scrapped the whole thing even after forcing a "captain's quarters" on us for awhile.

Is ED going through the same thing?
