Newcomer / Intro Is Open Server Even Populated?

I went and played on open for about 4 hours and I didn't run into anyone chatting in-game at all. No idea if there's more than one server. No idea if there are different in-game chat channels. Just curious as to why things seem so dead in open play. I'm in the U.S.

Tning you've got to remember is 400 billion stars out there. That's alot of space to get lost in. I started pretty far out and saw someone once every week or so. Then I got bored of the lonesom and checked out the player heatmap site. It doesn't have everyone I don't think, but it'll give you an idea of the more populated areas. Went to Barnard's Star near sol, now I see people all the time.

it could be because you don't play the game on a server, its pier to pier based. all the server does is handle the background simulations, saves and player matchmaking.

add to this a large galaxy of somewhere in the region of 160k populated systems as part of 400 billion star systems in the galaxy and its quite possible to play without seeing anyone for hours, even days at a time.

I'd prefer if I could get with people that have Vent or TS for chat purposes. Maybe someone that has a fleet set up that isn't just about PvP.

You might want to try the groups forum then, Mobius is the biggest PVE group i think. Pretty sure they (or others like them) will have a TS or vent setup.

im playing open but i don´t think that we will see us in the verse as i am on the other side of the Gallaxy right now
