Is Reboot/Repair supposed to fix thrusters?

Whenever I bounty hunt with my Viper, my thrusters are always the first thing that gets destroyed if my target pierce through my shield and get enough hits on me.
According to Elite Dangerous wiki:

"Use this to initiate a diagnostics and repair sequence. During this sequence, your ship will cannibalise healthy modules to repair completely broken ones."

However, when I tried to do this my thrusters remained completely broken. Do you need a repair module for it to work?

The reboot / repair canabalises the working modules on your ship and attempts to repair the failed modules so you can limp back to dock.
I have only ever had to use it once when my thrusters were knocked out, and it got them to 1% so i could at least get back to dock.

If your ship goes black and all your panels power down, that is the repair taking place and it should attempt a repair. I am not sure if this is a 100% success rate, I guess not if your thrusters were still out of action.

My thrusters were knocked out only once and when I used reboot/repair, it succeeded in repairing them. I'd try rebooting more than once in your place.

The vipers engines are easily taken down, it's one of the weaknesses of the viper.
The reboot repair option as far as I know only works once if they get put back at 0% they cannot be repaired again.

I checked them in the modules panel, and I could see that they were still broken. Judging by what people are saying, it seems like it has a chance factor to it. I tried repairing and rebooting several times before my enemy finally managed to kill my hull (he used quite a lot of time flying around and just making passes at me), so I guess it was just bad luck on my end.

My number one use of repair reboot is repairing thrusters. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and I shortly thereafter I get EJECT! EJECT!

I think I know what the what the problem may have been. If you were under fire, and executed the repair, as soon as your thrusters came back up, they were immediately taken down again. Because it can sometimes only bring you to 1% health, it can be toe-tapped and go out again. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you get EJECT.... EJECT

I often find I get shot during repair phase and my repaired system goes offline again. I think reboot and repair should have some sort of hull buff or temp shield maybe an inbuild chaff to make you stand more chance of living.

I got in a fight with an anaconda in my viper, well hardly a fight. He went straight for my thrusters and knocked them out, and just watched while i spun around helplessly. I repaired, he knocked them out again, and then once more before i finally got away
