Is something wrong with the way stations are aggro'ing you?

Ok, so I'm pretty new to Elite, but I think I'm getting it. Today, I'm trading in my Lakon-6 (100T cargo fit - I play in Open btw) and I start paying a little less attention - I forget to request permission, go to dock, trespass, don't clear the area in time, and poof, that ship's gone (as is the cargo) - whoops I think, I better pay more attention. Ok, lesson learnt (second time i've trespassed, first time I've lost a ship for it), I pay the insurance, take the hit on the cargo, start heading back. I eventually make it back to the same station, sell my load, pay off the bounty, wuhoo, I'm clean again.

About 20 minutes later, I revisit the station (doing my trading rounds), get permission to dock (yes, I'm very sure I had permission to dock, I've got a blue strip across the top of my console with a timer and a pad number to get to) and I start heading for the postbox. As I get near to it (I think i was just inside the fence), all of a sudden, the station opens fire and poof, I'm dead again. What the?

I don't mind taking the rap for being an idiot, but what gives? no warning? no comms? I'm carrying a legal cargo for the system (Tobacco) and I've got positive influence, I don't have a local bounty of any sort, and I'd paid off my bounty with the station for the trespass some time ago? Or, am I blissfully unaware of some other mechanic at play here?

Was there another ship behind you? The system authorities might have scanned a Wanted ship which would've caused the station to open fire on it and get you stuck in the crossfire.

I had something very similar happen. Was leaving a station for the Nth time that day, charging my FSD, saw the 4 ... 3 ... countdown, looked down for a second (at my puppy) and looked up I was "Destroyed by _____ station".

No idea why.

Lonely system nothing nearby, other than System Authority Ships, that I recall, certainly nothing in the slot as I approached, and nothing on approach as I came in, so if they were behind me, they'd have had to come in on pretty much exactly the same trajectory as me

As long as you're in an agile enough ship, entering without permission is not a death sentence - you can still make it back out before they kill you, you'll just take away a fine. I've done that multiple times - I'm just afraid one of these days I'll derpily fly in on a ship that's too large to make it back out before they blast me.

Personally, I'd really welcome a little change to stations, their forcefield at the docking could, for example, be shown red to you if you don't have permission to enter, switching to blue after you request docking permission.

Not sure if your using voice attack, but ive had the tannoy cancel my docking request for me by transmitting the command via voice attack for "docking"causing me to be caught in a hail of las fire. Also i think if the dock is full, your request will be put in a queue, so if you fly in out of habit after requesting, sometimes you can get caught that way. Other then that, can't say ive had many problems.

Also never tried it, but not sure if having hardpoints active affects it?

I'm not sure you can even stray into the station's line of fire w/o having them stop shooting. I've never been hit and I've had them open up all kinds of whoopass on ships near me.

As for the op, are you sure you weren't over the wrong pad and missed the trespass warning? Or were you going really slowly over the pad in front of your pad and missed the trespass warning? I don't think they give you much time to respond.

I've had this and seen similar stories on forums.

basically, commit an infraction e.g. Don't get docking permission don't get away in time, station kills you. Next time you visit or leave station the station kills you a second time

Not sure... and definitely not gonna try (except maybe by buying cheapo expendable sidewinder) - but the local cops aren't really fond of folks brandishing weapons within no fire zone the far I've noticed.

@Cliché - I hadn't even entered the slot at the time, it happened as I was on my way into the station

I've been caught by a stray shot once (maybe twice?), much earlier today - when something with aggro got popped by the station, but they seemed to be NPC's that had flown into the station cavern and were obviously not trying to land and I got two hits from a station laser before the NPC when boom, and other than that, all was well.

I wonder if it's a spawn issue - I saw an NPC appear in front of me as I was flying in with my Cobra yesterday, but I can't recall if it was that particular station, or another - I was keeping towards the green lights side of the slot (passing with them to my starboard side) and slipped past with no issue. Lakon-6 isn't that big, and I've been keeping the habit, so if the same thing happened this time around, I'd still slip past them, unless it was a Type-9 heavy

So it's a known issue? Glad I ticketed it! The question for me now, is do I try it a third time? Or am I just going to lose yet more cargo/cash?
