Is Space Still As Lonely

Greetings Cmdrs! o7

It's been a year or two (give or take) since I last properly took the helm of my trusty 'Conda and decided to have another run and see what's new.
But I wondered if there is much new to the game that I could get into.
I last played near the end of the Horizons season - I recall Engineering was getting revamped / altered, and Thargoids had been discovered? Maybe? I forget.

Can anyone suggest anything to look into for something that might be fun (and get the interest back again)?
Is it still so lonely as before?
Are there any good friendly groups that are looking for new members to join and get involved?

I've always found the main downside to Elite (for me) was not being able to ever find a group to play with. Solo gets lonely.
I play on Mobius EU server - though I have yet to actually see another living soul on there... lol
:-D

Welcome back!

Yup, engineering got a massive overhaul, it's pretty good now. (Gathering some bits can still be a pain).

Thargoids are, well, mostly optional.
If you don't wanna fight them, don't drop in to NHSS or AX CZs.
If you do, you need to go an unlock some of the new Guardian tech (mostly just weapons, modules aren't so useful).
It can be quite fun, for a few modules.
You can also unlock the guardian FSD booster, which can add up to 10ly to your range. Handy stuff.

We also have Squadrons now, which are player groups. Here at GARD we do a bit of everything, we're a lawful group, so we don't murder people. You're welcome to join! We're a medium sized group and we play across whatever mode we fancy, I can get the information if you're interested.

Plenty of others to choose from as well. :)

Hi cmdr,

Deep core mining is new and very profitable, and its really fun blowing up asteroids, plus there is a livestream tonight @7pm UK time demonstrating it.

It would take rather a lot of catching up at this point but the Distant Worlds 2 expedition has been a lot of fun.
Get to see some new sites and make extensive use of the exploration overhaul.
They* are heading out beyond Sag A towards Beagle Point now but with some focussed effort you could catch up.
Since everyone is going to known way points you should bump into some commanders and if you join one of the expedition Squadrons you'll likely always have someone to chat to even if they aren't in system with you.

* I've not left yet, been waiting for Explorers Anchorage to finish construction..

In order to find a group, you can look at the in-game squadrons list which is relatively new.

Or you can also check out the sqaudrons section on inara.cz

laughing at, "its been a year" … then, "last played near the end of the horizons season" … o_O 3 months is a year???

Yes, that's the trouble with an insanely big galaxy, players can be spread out and as such, you are very lonely. The only place where I encounter players (also on Mobius EU @ PC) is Sol and Shinrarta.

I would love to team up for some exploring, but as play times are random when I find some time this is near impossible. So lone playing for me too, but the (Mobius) Discord chat is great on my laptop...

Another Moebius here - currently out in the black but when I was in more civilized space the only way I knew there were other CMDRs out there was when i accidentally opened comm panel and game showed all recent contacts. Apart from that there is no interaction, at least in places where I used to fly.

Looks like we Moebius are very introvertic people ^^

As for the "fun things"... we got new ships for combat (Cheiftain and its clones, Krait), racing Mamba, explorer Krait Phantom. While we are with exploration - new mechanic that is somewhat engaging with scanning process. Mining is now on top spot due to Void Opals gold rush and cracking asteroids with explosives is fun on its own.

For more social people we now have squadrons (guild-ish ED creation) so you can join similar minded folks.

And that would be pretty much all, rest is smaller tweaks that don't affect general game play much. I'd suggest going to inara.cz, browse squadrons, join one and start from there.

I'm out at Guardian sites (approx 1000Ly from bubble) travelling with Gnosis (in Open, PC). Went to a remote site yesterday, 150kLs from arrival point, a tip off picked up from a listening post and not on the Gnosis schedule. Two other Commanders showed up in under 5 minutes.

One (good, bad, I don't know?) thing with this game is that you have to keep yourself informed of new developments, new updates, new gold rushes...

You could fill up pages just enumerating new thinks since 2.4, regarding exploration, mining, thargoids, new ships, new mechanics regarding engineers, etc, etc. Maybe a read of the patch notes for 3.0, 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3? Or some youtube videos dedicated to each of those updates?

Anyway, I think it's worth trying to see what's new in the game after more than a year. At least you will get accustomed again to the current state, in the wait for the "New Era" planned for the second half of 2020.

As others have noted, check out groups and squadrons. They do make ED less lonely even for those that play primarily solo (given the external to ED interactions).

There is a groups and squadron sub-forum where you can find one that fits.
