Is that astronomically accurate?

I found a planet in Gendenwitha system (Gendenwitha 2 if I am not mistaken) that seems to orbit around... well... nothing...

The planet itself orbit around it sun, but in doing so, it si also a moon to... that nothingness... It is the nothingness that orbit the sun... and the planet orbit around the nothing...

If my high school physics is correct, only mass can deform spacetime and force a planet into orbit.

Have I discovered a micro black hole? :D

You've pinged the entire system with an Advanced Discovery Scanner and found nothing that makes up the mass?
 
I know nothing about this kind of stuff but I did find an outpost that orbited "Nothing" .. :)

In reality, it is orbiting a very small Arquillian outpost with a tremendous gravitational pull. :D

There must be something else. Without knowing what the other object is, it's tough to determine the barycentre of the orbit. I'd say get an ADS and scan the whole system.
 
Is it orbiting the centre of gravity between two objects?

For example, if two starts are close together and the planet is far out, it will orbit the centre of gravity of the two objects combined, usually an empty point in space.

edit: found an example. These gas giants are orbiting the centre of gravity of the two stars combined rather than one star. It looks like they're orbiting nothng but a point in space.

Must be something of similar mass, that is orbiting "around" said planet, pulling at it.
It's what stars do in a binary system, just on planet level.

Or what LeetNoob just said. Also a possibility. One or the other.
What I mean is what the highlighted moons in his picture are doing. The "bracket" line indicates it.

Someone already mentioned why the planet is doing that.

The term is "Barycentre".

Your planet is orbiting a Barycentre.

Yup this is it. Remember small objects don't orbit bigger objects, both objects orbit their common centre of gravity. If this falls outside the surface of the objects, they appear to be orbiting empty space.

the moon doesn't orbit the Earth, they both orbit a common centre of gravity.

Walters Port in Condovichs is in an orbit around nothing and I'm pretty sure it's not in a barycentric orbit.

The system map shows it in orbit around the star.
By crazy chance, I'm in jump range of that system right now, so I'll take a look.

EDIT: This is indeed quite weird. The navigation panel isn't showing it as a "child" of the star, and it also doesn't show any orbit lines.

That's what I first thought but in every other case the orbiting stations are placed under the body they are orbiting .. (that could be wrong :) )


It might be considered a body/planet in its own right as far as the game is concerned, I suppose. Especially if there are no other planets in the system.

What do you mean? Do you see odd orbit lines for it? Any screenshot?
