Is the Eagle a rare ship?

I'm about to sell my free Eagle as I've never flown it and would like the credits. However, I just realized I don't think I've seen one for sale. Are these rare ships, or have I just not seen / overlooked them in the market?

You can purchase one pretty easily just about anywhere. Sell it without worry. It's fun, though, a damn fine ship.

Thanks for the input! I would give it a go, but I spent the bulk of my time in my Sidewinder as it seemed sufficient and wanted to see how the low end ship did. I saved up enough and I've been using the Adder for the last couple days. Missions and bounties finally started on a good streak so I've got the money for a Cobra and a reasonable buffer now. I think I'd rather use the value of the Eagle toward Cobra upgrades in my current situation. Maybe I'll buy one some other time for a dedicated fighter :)

Just bought another as sold the first one.

Its a good ship, no good for trading as very small cargo capacity, not bad for collecting bounties, we took down several Cobras yesterday.

I trying to use 2 (G) type one pulse lasers and (G) type one multi cannon but the laser suddenly stops in battle.

We have upgraded the power so that usage is 85% but still does it, very strange, and is putting off my son playing, there needs to be a diagnosis to show why something is not working.

Check your power settings. More pips toward weapons will keep it powered. I run this exact same setup. You also need the best power distributor you can buy.

@marcns007

Definitely sounds like the lasers are draining the weapons energy bank. If you look to the right of the radar, you'll see 3 vertical columns, which represent power for shields, boost and weapons. Lasers do tend to use a lot more power than kinetic weapons, so give the weapons bank more 'pips' (the little squares beneath each bank) to ensure that more juice is being fed to the weapon systems.

As CMDR Canaris said above me, upgrading your power distributor is essential for efficient combat, as a better distributor will keep your weapons juiced up MUCH longer, as well as providing a faster recharge rate.

Others have explained about the power distributor so I won't. However, you don't need to specify the weapon rating, only its class (1, 2, 3, etc) because there is only one weapon for its class and type. All gimballed beam weapons are the same rating, all fixed multicannons are the same, etc.

That aside, I suggest going with only ONE fixed pulse laser and two gimballed MCs. You'll have much better killing power, trust me.

Thanks,
I don't think it is a simple fix.
PIPS are on 4 for weapons and power useage is 85%, there seemed to be a change when we moved from fixed to gimballed lasers, you fire off 5 blasts and then nothing, no overheating or depletion, this only happens with a target, it doesn't happen when no target the lasers will fire for a minute before running out of steam??

Next is to go for the 60k power distributor, or swap a laser for a 2x multi cannon setup.

It is a bit of a pain for my 14 year old who wants his own ship and is making this Eagle an expensive ship, a diagnostic which showed where the issue is would be very useful.

I went ahead and upgraded to the Cobra Mk III. Wow! A few things of note:

1) My earnings have increased significantly. The extra hauling capacity is allowing me to take advantage of the reputation I've built and I've easily made 70,000 since I bought it just doing a few trade missions.

2) It's a gas guzzler! The fuel bill on this ship is pretty hefty compared to the Sidewinder/Adder. I use not mind paying 15 credits here, 20 credits there, but hundreds to thousands of credits every time it jumps..whoo. Immediately added a fuel scoop.

3) Surprising for it's size compared to the Sidey/Adder it handles amazingly well. Very smooth in turns.

A little disappointed it only came with Class 1 Pulse Lasers in the medium hardpoint and empty small hardpoints, but I'll remedy that soon enough and take her out to collect some bounty :D

All in all the Cobra's an amazing ship. I'll probably be flying this for quite a while.

Aaah, are both the lasers located beneath wings? Because gimballed weapons on the Eagle's lower hardpoints have pretty awful tracking range due to being placed so far back - if the target is in the upper regions of the cockpit, their line of fire will be blocked by the hull and they'll stop firing. During the time I spent with an Eagle I found this really annoying and swapped the gimbals back out for fixed weapons pretty quickly.

That's the only other thing I can think of. Hope it helps?

I love the Eagle. If it only had one more internal slot... :(

Loadout: Max the engine (A2) and power coupling. Only gimbal the top turret. Power consumption and heat are big deals on the Eagle, so watch out for getting too close to your max engine rating. Load should be no greater than 75%. Fuel consumption goes way up, under normal load on the big engine, and can be an insidious trap. If you are used to driving a Sidewinder, ignoring the fuel totalizer (aircraft speak for gas gauge) on the Eagle can be deadly, especially with the big frameshift drives. 1.2 ton consumption per jump means you have 3 jumps, and only 0.4 tons left for maneuver.

The Eagle is as rare as a drop of rain in a shower. :)
