Is the FDL the hardest ship to engineer?

I called my FDL to a remote based then upon examination found it was fitted out with a whole bunch of half engineered legacy modules. So it was time to complete the job rather than suck modules from other ships.

So now I've also called a Dolphin to ferry the FSD and Thrusters*, a 'conda for the weapons and boosters, a Chieftain for the Sensors, Power Plant and Power Distributor...

* I had to engineer it's 3A PP in order to take the Thrusters!

etc.

Nightmare :D

Just spent the better part of two days engineering mine from scratch. Hopping across the Bubble in my explorer phantom and shipping the FDL behind me.... think I invested at least another 10 m on transfer fees.
Pretty tedious stuff if you ask me. Makes me wonder if there are more efficient ways to do this.... (besides FC's of course)

I usually put everything that fits in a bubble taxi, usually a Conda, fly to the engineers that need the fdl itself (selene for example) ship it there and in the waiting time engineer everything thats on the Conda.

Yep. AspX in my case. Fly to the nearest starport, transfer the FDL, fly the Asp around gathering mats and scanning stuff while you wait. Easy. And the engineered FDL paid back the transfer fees in the first 10 minutes of haz res.

Did mine mostly just flying direct .. it is actually quite simple. You need to engineer the FSD first through a blueprint , then attach a Guardian FSD booster .. This takes you to about 27 light years of range. Slap a fuel tank of 16t to one of the optional slots and you are in reach of any engineer with 5-6 jumps. Not that difficult to be honest.

I kind of went down a rabbit hole committing to ferrying but I think you're right.

You'd still need to engineer your HRPs or SCB separately, so really it's just exchanging one problem for another :)

But I build all my ships this way. I fly them around, get used to them & by the time I'm done I've decided on a name for it & it's place in my fleet, or that I don't like that ship so I sell it again or store the hull at Founders.

It means I have lots of engineered components & when the next occasion comes up I cobble together something with what I can recycle & very little goes to waste.

After I'd got the FSD done with the Dolphin (got ganked at Deciat of course) I loaded the FDL up with everything else (SCB's etc) and just did slow tour. Done now :D

Did a gunship recently. Slapped a 64t fuel tank and 5A scoop on it. Mostly just for the experimental bits. Most useful blueprints are pinned. I use it as an opportunity to collect some data as i honk my way around the bubble.
