Is the galaxy map functional in VR?

If it is functional, can someone please explain what I'm missing?

  • I accepted a mission, launched, looked to my left, selected the mission info and the "go to galaxy map" button. Nothing happens.
  • I open the galaxy map manually, and the destionation is selected. I manage to choose to plot navigation, but a path cannot be found.
  • After having purchased a new frame shift drive, yet gettin the same message, I finally start using the mouse in the map to look around with. It looks as if I can jump to two other systems to get closer, so I try that. And now, finally, I can reach my destination. Why wasn't the map able to plot this for me?
  • The mouse cursor is a pain to use. I can only rotate with it, not actually select anything. It does select... somtimes... but never what I'm looking at (have to close one of my eyes to aim it too).

Shouldn't I be able to use my joystick hat switch to jump between systems, and perhaps the joystick itself to rotate my view?

Since the latest 2.1 patch, you can switch the mouse mode to a 'Rendered in game' option (from the GRAPHICS menu, not the controls menu), which causes the mouse to become flattened on the screen. The cursor only moves when you move the mouse, and you can actually SEE the mouse on the screen now as well.
There's also a headset rendering mode, where it's fixed to the HMD and moves around with your head, but that seems kind of pointless.
It's still difficult, verging on impossible to use the mouse in the galaxy map, even with the new rendered in-game option switched on. Because the mouse has rendered depth now, it means moving your head 'moves' the cursor, and it's really difficult to determine what you're actually clicking on. Besides that, it seems just as awkward as it ever was to select systems accurately and have them highlighted and present the options for them.

You're definitely right about the 'galaxy map' button on missions, it's completely non-functional.

Can't say one way or another about plotting routes, I'm still battling Thrustmaster target to try and get my joysticks working at all, haven't been able to do any actual flying yet.
