Is the keelback viable now?

Given AI sidewinders and eagles are apparently still instantly besting pilots in anacondas and corvettes, maybe a battle sidewinder driven by AI isn't all bad after all.

I have visions of a Keelback disgorging two FDL now like some kind of giant space furball. I think that's what nightmares are made of.

Battlewinders become practical if the T7 and T9 ever get externally docked fighers for their upper hull sockets. Keelback needs its maneuverability bumped up into Asp territory given its low speed and weak firepower.

If the keelback had kept the speed of the type-6, it would have been viable. And I would fly it because i really like the type 6. The shape, and the way it flies.

But If I would have to chose between the cobra4 and the keelback, the choice is easy. Cobra4.

The Keelback?

The escort/Q/blockade-running ship that is slower and less manoeuvrable than the T6 freighter it is based on?

That Keelback?

I was fighting at a nav beacon and the keelback was the only ship that was easy to keep in my Viper's sights.

There were a couple of wanted Type-6s that were all dodgy and made me fight for it, but the Keelback was just a big slow target.

Lol, only if the new AI is flying it, in which case it will fly circles around you, spew chaff endlessly, and strip your shields in seconds.:D

They should have put the medium mounts on top so they can fire backward/over the shoulder at pursuing ships. :/

It's anyone's guess why ships that typically get attacked from the rear while trying to escape don't have big turret weapons in the rear where they belong. It isn't as if the ship is too small for some tailgunners.

Maybe the engineers could weld a big plate to the rear of the ship.

You know a ship is truly beyond hope when someone chooses the purposefully gimped Cobra 4 over it.

Blockade runner. Ahahahahahaha. Wipes eyes...pauses for breath. Ahhahahahahahahah. Sigh.

I needed that, thanks.

Balance! Balance! Balance!

Is stuff like this that really frustrates me.

So I slapped on some rank 3 dirty drives on her. 380+ m/s, fully combat loaded. No complaints :D

By the way, I noticed an interesting quirk on her: She barely heats up when fuel scooping. I was sitting at max scoop depth and it got to 62% heat ... and stopped there. I'll have to test this again now that I have these really hot burning engines, but if the result is similar, that's one element of stress I need not worry about. I can leave it scooping and go fix myself a drink.
