Is the Krait the best mining ship

I know this has been discussed a certain amount before but I thought I'd put out my thoughts and see what everyone else is using-

The Krait is the best mining ship. It's got good cargo capacity, it's manoeuvrable, small enough to get in-between exploded rocks and the hard point placement is good.

The bigger ships I find to be frustrating when shooting off the choice morsels as the hard points are spread too wide when up close to asteroids.

Smaller ships simply don't have the cargo capacity- the AspX is great, but half the capacity of the Krait, for example

In short the Krait is the sweetspot of the ships range. Whilst this gold mine continues I'm going to keep mining for a while- it really is crazy amounts of cash. I'm presuming FDEV will adjust the returns at some point soon.

What are others thoughts? Does anyone find the big ships really work?

I use a Python. As much as I love love love my K2 for other stuff, the Python makes a superb mining rig which can really take advantage of the extra cargo cap over the K2.

Also, how close are you to the roids when popping surface deposits and placing charges? I'm usually just within firing range and don't facehug them. Seismic missile on the central hardpoint, abrasion blaster and lazor on the side items, and two beam turrets for defensive purposes.

I do get in really close, I find it works well for me, the flexibility and easy of manoeuvres with the Krait is a part of what makes it so good in my opinion.

I don't bother with defensive weapons, I just boost away a few times until the pirates disappear, seems to work well, again the high speed possible for the Krait really helps here

There's a decent range of vessels for rock murdering, so really whatever works best for you is the best one. I used to do oldschool mining in a Clipper, but that has painful hardpoint placement for the newschool toys. Also, I prefer to burn the face off of the smaller moochfish that nose around so I can steal their mats.

Anaconda for me.
No issues getting it in tight spaces, can carry all the tools, with more than enough cargo capacity, and fully able to defend itself.
Can even take an SLF for a bit of break.

My choice of mining ship comes down to how long I can enjoy mining at one go. I had been using an AspX, but switched to a K-MkII. The K-MkII can hold just a touch more cargo than I can fill in one go, so this makes it about the perfect mining ship, for me, right now. The only thing I would ask for with the K-MkII is another c2 hard point. Right now, I have to choose between an abrasion blaster, and sub-surface missiles. I just can't bring myself to fill a c3 slot with a mining tool.

Yep. I was using an aspX but changed to the krait because i was filling the asp in 20 mins. The krait has got good visibility too. It's bigger tho. I've bumped a few rocks with it while getting into the broken up roid.

I use a python better defense slightly and with a little engineering to thrusters it maneuvers fine. I have my setup a little overkill with the armor but sometimes even fully loaded i'll hunt pirates around my hotspot not just defend myself. he weapons in this loadout are not optimal either but since I don't fight too often with it im using the beams and seekers more for fun that efficiency.

I prefer the Krait too.

The Python is a good choice, but I hate the visibility. When it freezes up you're practically blind.

I use a krait.
As others mentioned it has the correct cargo level to suit my attention span, and it was sitting around without a purpose when I decided to try the new core mining.

Hmm, I mined a lot in a Krait, but hated visibility. One of the reasons I switched to Python - to remove those darn overhead pillars obstructing view, when Im looking for roids, manoeuvering in FAoff.

Otherwise Krait is Grait. But I prefer the Python - really like the extra space for high level amenities: G5 FSD booster, buggy and the like. I carry 3x overcharged frags and quite a bit of armor and shield, for obvious reasons.

Thats what I mean by Faoff mining:

Poor vis in the Py?

Basically no.

Fly just below the plain of the field and you can see kms left and right plus all the way through. Cruise at ~350 with the PWS on recycle. Easy mode with a wiggle now and again.

I’d post a pic of just how good the Py’s view is but I am on my phone.

Widescreen mining!

Python. Pure miner, no weapons. Easy for 100ml+ per hour at a chilled pace. Wanted to try a Krait but couldn't find one nearby, and didn't wanna switch out my combat gear on my current Krait, so opted for the Python. No complaints.

Hi Commander

I've experimented with several of my ships; Cobra, Asp, Python, Anaconda and keep coming back to the Krait Mk2
It just seems to fit the task of deep core mining just perfectly with it's internals and hardpoint placements... but also it's close quarters maneuverability when trying to synchronise with them darned elusive asteroid fissures!
Now the multiple Abrasion Blasters have been nerfed, you can also fit some hard-hitting offensive weaponry for those pesky pirates (plus the Krait is nippy for those fast get-a-ways)

o7 Safe VO mining!!!

My favorite is a dedicated Krait Phantom. Have enough hard points for each miming tool and plenty of space for modules. It’s maneuverable enough to scoop rocks without limpets so I only keep a prospector controller onboard. For pirates just make sure you start empty or they will attack straight away. With no guns I just book it and the Phantom leaves them in the dust. I can only take mining for so long before wanting to do something else and the Phantom fits the bill nicely. If just want a short session I keep a dedicated mining Keelback around and can usually do a run in about an hour including sales.
