General / Off-Topic Is the new mobile game currency mechanic a tencent idea?

Because surely the FD team wouldn't use scummy tactics like this?

Or are my rose tinted 30 year long fan of the company becoming tainted with cynical age?

What mobile currency?

Paying for an allocated amount of in game currency that is ever so slightly more than the item you want as in every mobile game ever.

I am aware enough to realise I am extremely cynical these days, I was hoping the FD team would stay away from this type of behavior.

That's just a virtual currency. You may be too young to remember, but stored value cards and the like have been around forever. Even before mobile phones. And I'm pretty sure this argument is available in other threads....

This is the way I see it: ARX are a means to compensate exactly these small gaps. As long as you don't feel to be obliged to gain whole paintjobs via ingame earned ARX points you're all set. Just play the game and don't take ARX-hunting too seriously.

But if I can pay for the one thing I want for exactly the price it is I do not have any small gaps to be filled.
I like the idea of the slow trickle of this currency, earnable in game, that's cool to me. I just foresee a slope towards gambling machines inside our space stations on the same patch as we get space legs. (calling it right now)

I really hope I'm wrong, often am :)

OK OK I changed the title :)
Right on, CMDR.

To be fair, it's always been like this for us console plebs. It's a system that's always been in place and frankly, it's helpful to not have to keep up with who we are giving money out to. The different development companies all "take" XBox points as payments and so we buy them and use them across all games without having to have an account at 15 different dev stores.

As to the pricing, I've always found it to be equitable. Kits and paints and what not usually divide up evenly into the allotted number of points. I have no reason to believe ARX will be any different.

True true, I had an xbox and a ps4, I never bought anything on either because of this approach, it is nice to know that they seem to be aware of this and are balancing components to match up, I was not aware of that.

Still don't like to see it in my PC games though.

........

You overlook (or just blatantly ignore to bolster your argument) the fact that you can now gain ownership of specific items rather than whole packs. So for example if you wanted a pink repaint previously you had to buy a pack of many different coloured repaints - now you can just have a fleet of single pink repaints for each of your ships.

Oh yes - plus of course you don't have to buy anything and you don't even have to trade-in / spend any of the totally free ARX credits that you will acrue whilst playing.

You do raise a good point there, I hadn't thought of this, I like that you can now buy a single thing, if this is the case, I haven't seen the new store yet to confirm it.

I still don't like the entire mechanic, and no one has remotely attempted to answer my question, I have missed these forums.

Hey, at least the new store means I won't accidentally buy a paintpack for the wrong ship like I did when I wanted a pink gunship and without paying attention bought the pack to have a pink dropship by mistake.

Upshot is that I now have two bright pink memeboats with pink engines and pink weapons.

What question? o_O

You never posited a question, just fired off a complaint from the hip without reading the published information about the Arx (or have misread it).

These questions have been answered in many other threads. Also Dev Posts explain ARX in detail. Also there was the Content Reveal.
