General / Off-Topic Is the Old Web Worth Saving?

TL;DR - Imgur decided to delete images not linked to any account from their servers. Discussion topic is regarding saving the "old internet" (to preserve information) that is potentially going to get deleted in due course.

Very interesting topic being discussed here. Also because the vast majority of images on these forums, from back in a day were hosted on Imgur.

Had I the resources, I'd be inclined to archive everything, for posterity...and the off chance it might prove useful.

Personally, I kinda like that most records of my existence will be lost, as it makes preserving a modicum of privacy much easier.

I've designed plenty of websites where I hosted images that are no longer present on the web anymore. The fact that a major image sharing website is doing this does not seem so controversial, nor new, as I'm certain there is plenty of other old material from the earlier web that also is not available anymore as it was originally published and hosted privately and prior to Web 2.0 coming along.
