Is the saitek x45 still supported in ED.

Weve all been there at one point, deciding on that new Hotas, which one is best, most reliable ect.
Well i am there now, and i have mentioned in a few threads lately about various Hotas joysticks,
I am in the situation where i want the best bang for buck.
I love the look of the x52, but i can't afford a new one, maybe hopefully a second hand one might come in my price range.
But also was thinking of the x45, older i know, but quite cheap now, but is this still supported in some way, profiles ect, for ED and other games, were they built to last, so would a second hand one now still work for a few years to come, or were they not too good, and all the ones now are likely to be worn and useless.
Yes i could afford a t flight, or similar, but was hoping to get into the world of a good hotas on the cheap. Any info might help me decide what to do.

It'll work. I used one back in January before giving it away to a friend and trading up to a Warthog. Think he's using it for Elite as well now and is happy with it.
Don't need any profiles - Windows sees it as a multi axis joystick and Elite can just treat it as just a bunch of axis and buttons to assign stuff to.

I brought mine back when they first came out as a replacement to the old X35/36.
Electrically it was sound without any issues despite quite regular use. The sensors were good and didn't have any twitch to them.
Overall build quality was okay but a bit creaky cheap plastic in places, with some minor slop developing in how the grip was mounted. I dislike the single cone spring system though; I found it difficult to get fine control about centre and wish they'd stuck with conventional springs in the gimbal. Don't know if the later Saiteks improved on that or not.

thanks for the info, i have seen some second hand Saitek x45 going for about the same price as a new thrustmaster t flight x, so i am tempted to go for the better x45, but at the cost of buying second hand.
But if i can find a second hand x52 for around £60, i would try to get the extra for that.

I'm using an X45. I used to use this to play Star Wars Galaxies and the X series of games, so when I bought ED I dusted it off. Just this week I upgraded to a new pc and I did have some problems finding the drivers for Windows 7 64-bit. Luckily I had them on my old computer. Although Windows 7 recognises the controls without the Saiket drivers, I prefer to have them because it's easier to set dead zones.

I don't want to upgrade the X45 because I like the roll controls better than the ones on the newer sticks. Overall though, it's great for ED.
