Is the server available or not?!

In the launcher it says that the server is available, but in the game it says that technical work is underway!
What the hell???!!!

I had this issue today (the day after the update). I closed the client (that was updated yesterday) and restarted the Elite Dangerous Launcher, and I'm in.

In the past I've had to log out of the Launcher client and relog in. ED is finicky that way sometimes.

I can't actually remember a time when the server status indicator on the launcher actually worked. Like many things associated with the game, FDEV just can't be bothered.

Shame really as it is* the best game ever.

First time loading the game after 15.01 didn't work for me. Second and subsequent attempts worked normally. Something has definitely changed with the way it connects since U15. Re-logs to fix missing mission items take considerably longer now.

If the OP had launched legacy instead of live, it would have worked perfectly fine.
The explanation is that the server status shown in the launcher doesn't really have much to do with the game servers; it just pings a website that is loosely associated with the frontier account servers. Which is pretty pointless because if those are down, the launcher already complains that it can't log you in or verify your purchase.
