Is the Sol system unfinished?

It's not a direct gameplay/debug element, so I guess it is not on top of the list.

We are definitly going to get lights on planets, they had that in a old newsletter... I'm sure planets will get another pass or two. They must!

If you read the old news-letters (1-20) you will find at least one thing from each of them that is missing in our present build of the game.

Keep in mind that most images from space (planets, nebula, etc...) are taken through filters and are digitally enhanced to bring details out front. In general, it doesn't look as good as you might think.

This is a very good point. A lot of pictures that get published are enhanced with false color infrared or other wavelengths that are invisible to us. What we expect to see may not be reality for human eyes. That still doesn't excuse Jupiter having rings though...

Jupiter DOES have rings though. Exactly as many as depicted in game. The problem is they are composed primarily of dust and only the main ring has any level of albedo to be anywhere near visible, and then only barely.

Currently if you look at the system map in Sol, despite the fact all the (major) moons and rings for planets are there, they all have the wrong designations and compositions. I'm pretty sure the moons of Jupiter and Saturn are designated as icy when that certainly isn't the case with many in reality, none of them have atmospheres currently, either.

Most of the ring systems are designated as icy too, when they are primarily dust (I'm pretty sure dust rings aren't currently in the game, are they? Only rock, metal and ice.)

Back in 2010 one of the big dark bands completely disappeared for a while

Indeed... I got a few photos of it at the time. :) It was so weird to not see those characteristically near-symmetrical bands.

Well, I too visited Sol system. Didn't see double polar vortex on Venus. Didn't see night lights on Earth or any new sci-fi features expected 1000+ years into the future. On a related note: are there city-worlds and colossal orbital factories in Elite universe? Currently it seems rather low tech compared to the likes of Star Wars and Star Trek.

Terraformed Mars is interesting, but again -- no night lights.

I did see a capital ship in Earth orbit. Dramatic music started playing. It was nice. I would suggest a couple of fighter ships to patrol around as well and maybe a little text acknowledging my presence. Another possibility would be to put it near some starport, which would make that starport feel more unique.

A couple of starports have different insides with palms and white walls. I haven't seen this anywhere else. Is this unique to Sol system?

I was expecting Federal Dropship to be sold in this system, but it wasn't.

Overall it was okay. Had some new things for me, but was underwhelming in other regards. It's the capital of Federation. When you go to a major capital, you can find everything there (although very expensive) and it has unique things. Same should apply here, otherwise people's expectations are not met.

Moons are described along the line of "icy planet". Maybe change that category name to more general "icy world".

Everything in the game is now absolutely final, and what you see is how it will remain for the next 15-20 years FD is done and wont touch it again. sorry

Your pessimism is unwelcome, AND incorrect. Improvements are incoming, all around. The game is in ever evolving development, as Frontier has said. Dispose of your attitude, and remain constructive, or spout your negative propaganda elsewhere. Thanks.
