Is the T9 still viable?

As above, is the T9 still a viable ship and is anyone using it? I used one in the last patch frequently before moving to a conda, but seeing the changes in the latest release I'd expect the poor old beast needs a buff.

Agreed. I only stopped using it recently since I took up smuggling and I needed the ability to land on outposts, so presto, I bought me a Python. At some point, however, I'll replace it with a Cutter.

Converted my original T9 into a mining ship a while back, take it out of dock purely for a relaxing cruise every now and again, sold my other one to pay for the A8 shields on my Cutter (158 million!!) The T9 is a great ship on sub 14LY routes... Only 63 million for the hull in Li Yong-Rui space, a bargain when you compare it to the Conda and Cutter

If you are already Elite or Tycoon trader, the real money is bulk long range missions rather than A-B-A freight transport. The Anaconda and Cutter are the kings of long haul bulk freight or mission hauling. The Python is unbeatable for making massive amounts of cash through smuggling.

A buff?
Why?

It is good as it is.

I would like a heavy warship variant of the T-9 though.
It looks like a monster and with less room for cargo, but heavier weaponry and some other tweaks and visual changes it would be fun to use the T-9 like I use my Anaconda in combat.

I had a giggle at a clipper who interdicted me around Christmas. He barely got me to 60% by the time I highwaked out.

If you can purchase Imperial Cutter, there are no reason to use T9. Cutter is the best trading ship you could ever dream of at the moment, junk your T9 asap!

- Cutter beat T9's cargo hold by a large number
- Cutter has more stock HP and shield than T9
- Cutter has more speed than T9
- Cutter has much better jump range than T9's miserable jump range
- Cutter has Agility 2, while T9 has 0 agility! ZERO!!!

And the most important ones are
- Cutter looks sexier than T9 that looks like space brick jr
- Cutter has sexier engine sound than T9 that sounds like fart
- Cutter has spacious and comfy cockpit than T9's cockpit that looks like a gaol!

Any sane person would choose Imperial Cutter than T9 given they have all the funds and rank.

Considering my Cutter costs just over 400 million, plus I had to spend weeks in Empire space, I would frikin expect it to outclass my old reliable but rusty Type-9 Heavy!

If the Cutter was that good, it wouldn't cost roughly 4 times the price of the Type 9 when both are kitted for trade.

I wouldn't scrap my Type 9 immediately either, given its track record with me

You'd recommend doing trade missions over regular A-B hauling? I've never really seen any big paying standard freight missions, I'm guessing they're to be found out at Robigo etc? The other thing that puts me off using the Anaconda for missions is the large amount of them that require landings at outposts. I'm Tycoon at the moment working my way up to Elite bit by bit. A good spot for mission hauling for the Empire so I could up my rep and make some good coin would be very nice, as I want to get a Cutter some day.

If you are Tycoon or above, bulk mission hauling is the way to go.. Only drawback is the attention you get from NPC's.. Regular hauling is much more relaxing since you get hassled less.

Aditi and Fehu for Empire space - Make sure to also visit the planetary bases in Fehu, two orbital stations and two bases, you can haul inter system while you pick up the bulk haulage missions at each station/base. I used a T9 for a while, Cutter is better due to the larger cargo space...

Check it out in the Anaconda, if you don't see good missions to large pad destinations, pick up a cargo mission to the next base in system, rotate until you are full. Head back to the bubble once fully loaded, good money and you rank up at the same time.

Edit - You also get long range bulk missions to other planets, all ports on planets have large pads.

People talk Type 9s down. But they are brilliant for what they are designed for. I use one for mining and i wouldn't have another ship.

I'm 30 hauls away from my first T-9. I should have it in a couple of days I'm hoping. Can't wait! Looking at the Cutter though, wow. I might make that my next goal and forget the Anaconda. 100 million credits should be good to by a T-9 I'm guessing?

Yeah, that's with cargo and insurance. make sure you get the best distributor, the T9 can constantly boost once it's maxed, everything else can be D-rated, high wake if interdicted in open - Try to learn to at least partially fly with FA-OFF, the ship handles much better without assist interfering, just takes a little getting used to.

Cool, thank you,

I do fly with FA off and on during combat so I'm use to it already, sort of. I'll keep that in mind about the modules. What's it like for defense or is it just best to run for the most part, meaning don't bother putting any real weapons on it?

Sometimes people need to be saved from themselves, so let me help you. Dont buy a t-9!! Ever!! for any reason other than it looks kind of cool. I literally own every ship in the game, except a t-9.

Total waste of money.. For pure trading believe it or not, you will make almost as much per/hr with a Python, because its much faster and can land on outposts (which means shorter routes/more credits per ton). Also you will have more fun in a Python and open a world of other options (such a smuggling, Conflict Zones/REZ ect).

Edit: Also dont listen to people who wear sunglasses and look like they havent shaved for a while telling you to fly with FA-off. They are evil!! FA-on is your friend.

I had a giggle at that Master FAS that interdicted me a while ago on a 500 ton palladium run... was a nice bounty that paid even for the repairs and then some.
was a close call tho... considering i had A4 shields and only 2 boosters that t9 didnt do that bad at all tho:
