Hardware & Technical Is the X-52 Pro a worthwhile purchase now that Logitech have take over manufacture?

My X-55 Rhino is on the way out. I've had to unbind the throttle-mounted rotaries because the throttle handle itself keeps triggering the rotary axes and the stick is too damn big (even for my massive hands) to comfortably use the upper two hat-switches.

I'm thinking about downsizing to the X-52 Pro but I remember reading a lot of negative feedback about build-quality in the Saitek/MadCatz days. Has anyone bought one from Logitech recently and if so, are they worth it?

Side note: I'm also looking at the Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS but damn, that thing is ugly.

Good question, i have bought one directly from Logitech, and all the box, branding etc are exactly the same ! You cant tell if its new or old stock

The x 52 pro is still a solid stick, I used one for years for combat flight sims, and while logitech dropped driver support for many other saitek sticks, they still support the x52 pro and windows 10. Of course you wont have the range of controls you have had access to on the x55, but a purchase of voice attack will soon sort that out.

Im a big fan of the X52 pro and have several shift states for VR. nothing you cant map.
My wife an i both use one, but I have replaced yaw springs on both and removed the Dtent on the throttle, and one now has a waiting
a fault with secondary fire button so i have bought a 3rd
This time I have registered the product and bought direct, any issues in the 2 yrs and its going straight back .
Ive raised a question on the Logitech forum, but no answer

The x 52 pro is still a solid stick,

I had 3 (three) X52 dying on me in a year, and two X55 the year after that. To be fair to Saitek, they always replaced them for free, no question asked.
Still, while I don't doubt your experience, I'd seriously discourage anyone from buying one of those. Granted, I do play a lot and I'm not that gentle with my HOTAS, but so many defective products made me move away from these models for ever.
So I bought a Warthog and had zero issue in 14 months.

I've had an X52 from years back. Few issues. I lose power every so often and have to swap USB ports.

Logitech did update the drivers not too long ago.

Never had any issues with my X52 proflight at all...it was one of the first Logitech ones as opposed to the Saitek/Madcatz builds. I upgraded a bit to the X56 a few months ago (shiny button syndrome) which I'm also very happy with apart from not feeling as 'solid' as the X52 proflight. Both HOTAS setups have lasted several hundreds of hours not only in E-D but other flight sims...the new Logitech software is OK...didn't like it for the X52 pro so I went back to the old Saitek programming software whilst running the latest Logitech drivers.

Both are good quality HOTAS setups... all in all I'd recommend either the X52 proflight or the X56 Rhino without hesitation.

I still use my x52 Pro which now is quite old (had since back when I flew online in IL2 1946 competitive campaigns). Great thing too about the x52 Pro in ED, is there are some excellent community profiles out there.

I picked up my x52 Pro from a yard sale and despite some wear and tear and being 2nd hand it's been very reliable. No prob recommending

Having two pieces, one fro mSaitek and one from Logitech I can tell that both are about the same quality. Minor malfunctions and same build quality (opened both to check).

It's still the exact same stick but you get logitech warranty (I already had to replace it after a month because the fire trigger didn't work anymore).

The Warthog is the only way to go in terms of utility ad quality. The X52 Pro has utility but no quality ... T16k is good too but feels weird.

For the X52 Pro though, nothing has changed.

Used to use a T-Flight HOTAS X but went for X52 about 5 months ago. Love it. Had none of the wiring issues Ive read about (so far). In fact no issues at all (so far)... I've probably just jinxed myself there.

Bought my X52 about six months back (several months after the Logitech purchase). Not a speck of Logitech anywhere on it; I'm just about certain it's old stock from Saitek days. Meh, worked alright. I went back to mouse and keyboard, but more out of familiarity than any issue with the stick and throttle.

I still have my Saitek X65F which was one of the best joysticks I've ever owned....

The only reason I'm not using it any more is I'm trying out dual sticks... (MongoosT50 from virpil) It was an absolutely solid stick. Heavy af and all metal construction.... but cold as a barsteward in the winter.
It was also force based so there were no moving parts to go wrong in the base... Had to replace a slightly flaky microswitch at one point (well, I just swapped it to a location I rarely used).

I had the saitek "pro" flight pedals and they were garbage quality in comparison.

Saitek clearly had its ups and downs.

X52 was saitek designed and as such build quality is...... OK.
X55 was designed by madkatz after the buyout and as such are built terribly. I now use an x56 at moment but essentially it is the same (confirmed by Logitech support rep). I believe Logitech are preparing to launch a Logitech designed and built stick "soon"

I’ve had a x52... and yeah, mine was flakey. It gave up after a few months...

I got hold of a T1600000(000... whatever), was great, but envied the x56 and all its buttons...

Got hold of a x56 on a deal, one slider never worked but rest was ok.... but I’ve since gone back to the T1600000000000.

The “feel” of the x’s is all wrong for me... I’m loads more confident in my flying with the T160000000

Logitech did do an update of the X-56 to solve some of its manufacturing defects (notably a weakness to electrostatic discharge) - you can tell them apart because the markings on the stick are grey in the Logitech version rather than the original blue. That said, it doesn't fix the stiction problem with it.

To my knowledge, the X-52 Pro has not seen such a refresh. On the other hand, the X-52 Pro generally had a better reliability reputation than the X-56.

In any case, after my latest X-56 (my third, one of the old Madcatz stock not one of the new ones) started acting up I ended up investing in a VKB Gunfighter II. Suffice to say, I don't regret my decision in the slightest. It's a vastly superior stick.

That's good information. I've been holding off on the X-52 after reading the horror stories about it's quality.

I have 3 X-52 throttles and they're great. One on each gaming computer and a spare. No need for the spare though. I'm currently using the T-16000 stick with the X-52 throttle and they pair well.

Looking forward to seeing what Logitech comes up with.

Aye I think those that praise the saitek sticks just don't have any experience with a higher quality hotas and as such, it's kind of like using cheap dollar store headphones and claiming they great...and then years later you use a nice pair of studio headphones and are like what in hell was I thinking?...this studio quality headset is leagues better!
