Is there a better way to perform surface mining other than blasting them with plasma and watch them fly across the sky.

Could there be a purpose built mining ground vehicle or a purpose build attachment for the SRV that uses beam energy and has a form of collector that helps with surface mine.
Consider the fact the company is bought over by Core Dynamics, maybe something new will come with this merger.

If you don't mind a 1600ly trek, you can pretty much max out your elements in no time.
Simply trade all your grade 4s down for lower grades, and across for Selenium. DO NOT TRADE YOUR SELENIUM.
Until you have no G4's left (except selenium).

Then fly to these planets, and land at a BIOLOGICAL site (not geological);
HIP 36601, Planet C 1 d. (0.08 G) (154,104 ls) for Ruthenium.
HIP 36601, Planet C 1 a. (0.09 G) (154,099 ls) for Polonium.
HIP 36601, Planet C 3 b. (0.04 G) (154,145 ls) for Tellurium.
HIP 36601, Planet C 5 a. (0.03 G) (154,288 ls) for Technetium.
Outotz LS-K d8-3, Planet B 5 c. (0.07 G) (310,420 ls) for Antimony (go to site #1)
Outotz LS-K d8-3, Planet B 5 a. (0.09 G) (310,420 ls) for Yttrium.

.. and shoot the crystals to drop a G4 mat each time.
A couple of hours of shooting, and you'll be maxed out on G4s, and hopefully very full on everything else.
Gravity is very low, so have patience, and your FPS may tank significantly because of the density of the sites.
It's a long old trek, but worth it in my opinion. I'm tempted to trade down even more materials and zip back tomorrow seems the game is effectively broken for combat. Lol

Need a mats hoover for starters.
I don't like having to faff about selecting mats to collect.
If I drive over it with scoop open, should auto pick it up.

Yeah, materials shouldn't need to be targeted (but canisters should).

Generally, I've had no problems with motion sickness in VR. The SRV changed that. I hate that thing so much, that I try to avoid it whenever I can. Crystaline Shards is by far the best way to get it over with. A few hours of misery, followed by some puking and a few hours sleep, and you're almost back to normal. Yay! I don't need the mats, but it's hard to survive without them. I guess I would also get sick driving a SRV IRL, but I'm not sure that realism is needed. I wouldn't like to play a FPS game, where getting hit would literally get you wounded or killed.

Agreed, had a couple of rough run during rocky surface. didn feel like playing due to bad motion sickness. even on 2D screen.

I would even gladly welcome some detachable mining platforms which slowly mine some elements in fields which we look for like hotspots in asteroids. They could be one time working until battery is dead or they mine certain amount of element, or be reusable after collecting and recharge (for collecting minerals , or maybe both).
