[LFG] Is there a community for players with PTSD?

I'm looking to be a part of or begin to build a community with/for players who have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or similar mental health challenges. I've been fortunate in other games to find like-minded players who are unafraid and unapologetic about their lives outside gaming and I'm hoping to find Elite to be much the same. I'm West Coast US timezone, but game with friends from all over the globe. I'm crazy, but like, a fun crazy. Be well, Traveller, and walk without rhythm.

I would like to commend you for raising this. PTSD isn't just among veterans. In the UK alone, it is estimated that 18 million people out of a population of 68 million have mental health issues, including PTSD, brought about as a direct result of the pandemic.

Hi there Commander xmuaddweebx
I don't know of any community that specialises in PTSD or even mental health problems, but I do know that many players join gaming communities as a result of their own issues. Especially RP games where they can roleplay in a safe and understanding environment.
That I think is where your best course lies.
There are communities within Elite where the players have more patience and less judgement than others.
You should seek out one of those.
I'd like to think that the ARRC is one of those communities, but I can't be certain. I would suggest that you take a look at us and see how you feel after spending a little time.
Many of us are over 50, some even older than 60. We also have a lot that are much younger.
We come from Europe, and Australia, America and England. So we are a good mix. We even have ex servicemen amongst us so we do have some understanding of PTSD and the stress it brings.

I will check out the ARRC this week, yes thank you. I'll cast the net wide and see what happens. I'm a mid-40's family man (currently trying to home school two kids and hold down a career amidst a pandemic, and 25 years from now no one is going to believe us when we tell them about 2020). Gaming saved my life decades ago and continues to do so to this day. Always excited to meet people from around the world and play games together. All the best to you and yours, please stay safe and have the happiest of holidays this year. Be well, Travellers, and walk without rhythm.

I've been giving this topic a lot of thought lately and while I do want to join a wing in Elite, I also felt it was necessary to push forward with the initiative of linking like-minded gamers, so I went ahead and created a Steam group to start. Baby steps.

You are not alone, others understand, and together we can help make the world a better place one soul at a time. Be well, Travellers, and walk without rhythm.

35, family man, ex mil, I say what I mean and mean what I say. Also a man child (according to the wife 😆) . Recent convert to PC and have zero friends lol, completely understand that gaming brings enjoyment, social activities and laughter to relieve symptoms, laughter being the most important.
