Newcomer / Intro Is there a decent thread on setting up a joystick?

Just downloaded the game and jumped into demo and boy..... that didnt go well.

Struggling even with just working out what I need to map to my joystick let alone getting into sensativities.

Rather than asking to much in here, is there a thread about this. Most other 'flight' sims I've played generally have two or three running.

I got an old Saitek Cyborg 3D gold.

Probably not in there but I'll take a look and see.

I haven't seen any threads pertaining to that particular sitck. However, I would advise that you put functions related to combat on it - targeting and weapon management - as a priority.

Use the "shoot toxic waste canisters" mission as a test bed. When i first got the game, I spent a good two hours in the demo mikssions just setting up my joystick and testing it. Sure, it was intensive, but by the end I knew my control profile backwards.

Basically you need to set your stick up to fly and shoot

as the100thmonkey says .... use the tutorial missions to test out your binds... you can pause and adjust and continue as much as you like,,,,, no cost and no ship lost etc

remember to constantly make a back up copy of your binds as you progress... make a mistake.... you can revert to a known working version

it takes time..... and constant fine tuning

Thanks for the replies.

I'm realyl struggling with throttle/thrust. Firstly, I'm not sure which one I should be adjusting. Andy - I assume from your post (thanks btw) that it's throttle but all I can get is full or no throttle. My joystick has a throttle(?) lever which means I can adjust wherever I want but ingame this only translates to full throttle or not throttle OR I can go full throttle and then stop increases or decreases.

Ideally I want to move the lever to the middle to get 50% and up to get 66%(example). I dont want to have to full in and stop out (if that makes sense).

or, probabyl an easier way of saying it. If my lever is at 10% when I want 10%, if it's at 70% then I want 70% throttle.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Is it because the requirement is digital whereas my jostick is analog (not even sure it is to be honest).

How do i save each update of my bindings.

You need to assign your throttle to throttle axis which is the analogue control and not throttle +/throttle -

Same with Roll, Yaw and Pitch.

Got the basics working now and took down the solo pilot with ease..... though I imagine Im not the only one.

No doubt I'll post back asking for more help again
