Is there a guide on how to overcharge FSD using stars/synthesis?

Apologies for the newb question but I mostly putter around in the bubble... I'm not even sure how to ask this question except I get the impression from some posts I've glanced at that you can temporarily boost your jump range by using particular stars and/or synthesis?

I looked through the explorer guide section but I didn't see anything in the titles about boosting FSD range... Like I said I'm not even sure what I'm asking!

I think at one point I got too close to a white dwarf and it did something to my FSD... I really wish there was some kind of in-game Eliteopedia for this kind of thing!

Thanks in advance if you can link me to a guide for this!

The White Dwarfs are, in my opinion, best avoided ..... more chance of coming a cropper, and for relatively little benefit in the jump.

Neutron stars are what you should practice with and use. They have a long cone which helps to keep you away from the dangerous center. Approach the cone/vortex about halfway up, where it changes from bright blue to darker blue. Enter slowly in supercruise, in a direction that is heading away from the neutron star. Try to keep it pointed to the vortex at the top, effectively making a swoop through the cone away from the star.

You will lose directional control, but after a few seconds you will get the message in blue that the FSD is supercharged, then make every effort to exit the walls of the cone as quickly as you can, and head away from the star.

When you next try to plot a course in your Galaxy map, you will find you can select a jump as much as 4x your basic jump distance, allowing for slight variations because of conventional fuel load.

You can, if you are in a suitable area, then jump from one neutron star to the next and repeat the process. But keep an eye on your fuel, because you will eventually have to refuel at a conventional star.

The FSD takes damage, usually 1% for each neutron star, but it can be 2% if you linger within the cone for too long. Keep an eye on the FSD condition in your right window (key 4 by default). You should repair it if it gets close to 80%, or it will start to fail and may leave you stranded. That's why carrying a repair unit on board is helpful.

Don't do WD stars. not worth it.
What I do with neutron stars is:
Get my scan done and get away like I've always done.
Then approach carefully perpendicular with the jet while having the NS targeted.
Ease into the jet on the far end.
Once it grabs me hang on till I get the supercharge message; all the while keeping the NS behind me.
Fight my way out.
Usually I get out with 0-1 damage on my Friendship drive.
For me it's not easy. I don't do it often enough to be good at it.
But the 130ly jumps can be nice at times
