Newcomer / Intro Is there a manufacturing/invention career like in Eve Online?

I guess my question is self-explanatory. I remember from Eve an additional career which I haven't found at ED: manufacturing/invention, something that I enjoyed doing.

I think we don't have it here yet, but I'm not quite sure, so figured i'd ask. Or are there discussions of implementing it at all?

I'm putting this into the newbie section since I'm a new member still so I might just be missing something.

Btw if by any chance I'm opening a can of worms -it's not my intention, so please do not take it as such.

The focus for Elite is "a pilot and his/her ship". So don't expect any content above that. There is still a lot coming, but not in that direction. What is announced so far is the following:
Short term
1.1. Update community goals (due this week)
1.2. Update giving us wings (grouping mechanism, due maybe next month)

Long term:
Detailed planets with the ability to land and explore
Ship/station walkable interiors

Some like this kind of idea. Some not. I'm in the not camp.

As Pyrion points out, its not currently on the Devs radar, and from discussions it doesn't look like it ever will be. However, plans can change with time. Just don't expect something like this soon, if ever.

Ok, thanks guys, I thought so too, but was not sure, hence the question. I was just thinking re. Eve as that is also 'my ship and me' type of game, and it has a market, just like ED, so figured those who love trading as a main job, could basically contribute to the market per se. Not a biggy anyway, thanks much for the replies.

Does helping to build stations count?
Its kinda crafting, not sure how the mechanics will work tho.
