Discussion Is there a planetary/system api out there?

I am an IT professional and I'm looking for a hobby project.

I was wondering if there was an API containing details of all discovered systems and planets, what and where they are and who discovered them?

I was thinking of how cool it would be to have exploration leaderboards. Monthly competitions for distance travelled, stars discovered, etc. (With prizes being Steam keys or something.)

Having a counter of discovered Earth Type Worlds and such would also be cool.
