Is there a reason to pick the FAS over the FDS?

The FAS is amazing. I run a large beam on the top and 3 PAs on the bottom (everything fixed of course) and it's a ton of fun. Engineering has only made it better.

People say it's like a vulture on steroids but they are missing one important point: the vulture is more of a shield tank whereas the FAS is a hull tank. I run a hybrid build with biweaves but between 1800 hull hp and MRPs losing your shields is just an annoyance. It takes an adjustment to get used to.

I recently sold my FDL in favor of my FAS. (FDL was going to be the upgrade from my FAS) but...just couldn't like the FDL. Then first fight in the FAS 5 v 1 (PvE) my shields dropped and I had that brief moment of "Oh crap" before I remembered I was in my FAS...and laughed as they barely scratched my hull while I took them out.

Ended the fight with 78% of my hull left, almost the entire fight shield-less. It made me happy.

FDS Hull tanking Beast (5000 armor) FAS Speed Demon (Armor 2-3k 250 shields) FGS (2500 armor 200 shields+Fighter) They are good ships but i'll take my python over any of them (1000-1600 shields 4000 armor)

FDS is a better mining ship.
FAS is a better combat ship.
FGS can use fighters.

All three look like something used to hold a door open.

I'm starting to like the sound of the FAS. I love the aesthetic of Fed ships, and I'm about to clear Chief Petty Officer.

The real question for me is get myself a FAS for bounty hunting NPCs, or stick with the Fightin' Python?!

I got my last night and put on the hardpoints and utilities and took it out. It feels really good to fly, I don't even have any thrusters modded on it just the 6E. This is the build I'm looking at https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/fed.../v5AfNwODyDcgIbECKPj/PwDELmRCPAAAAA==&bn=FAS It's a combat ship that maybe once you engineer the crap out of it could PVP (rails with feedback to counter SCB) I did cut corners when it comes to it so anything that's not A fit, I would A fit but the SCB cause having 10 in total is really nice.

 You dont use SCB's on FAS!! Why, but Why ??
Just a good shield and a single booster, internals only HRP and MRP.
Thrusters must be A.as PP. as Thrusters
Where is the Frag cannon, where ?
Heatsinks are for sissies, FAS need no heatsink
Fuel scoop in combat is no-no!
Vehicle hanger in combat? Are you going to road kill them ?
A good life support, because you WILL loose your canopy. check!
General advice: only ever A or D components, ever.

There set to go :)

Cheers Cmdr's

I have a ton of HRP already, when doing PVE MRP don't matter to much unless your runnning away. I want my shields to a point of my defense too. A PVE hull tank has to go back to the station more than a mix of the two.

You are doing it wrong, I am sorry. A well flown FAS rarely has to go back. You are a brawler now, you get in close, use it superb handling, up close 100 meters and shoot, or ram them to death!! yes!! A 'Conda full shields takes 3 - 4 Rams to die.
Try what I suggested, you will not be disappointed. Frag cannon, did I say.. yes learn to use it, close range it is the hardest hitter.
Sneak up on your pray, open fire at close, very close range, and stay there, 95% cant shake you of.

Only shield generators that should be used on a Fast are Bi-weave personally - Can still get a decent strength with good secondaries and a single heavy duty.

Then again if I had any say in the matter at all, I'd remove Scbs from the game entirely and make the only available shield generators D rated and Bi-weave ;)

I have always enjoyed using Frag but the problem is taking on wings, anyone with a fighter bay, or a fast ship can hit me from afar.

That's why I have SCB, if you can't beat em join em.

My bounty fitting is a large PA on top, and three pulse cannons for the rest.

Why? Because I don't want to run out of ammo, and my opening salvo with the PA can take out the shields in no time. :D

The thing is with that is that while you have 3 1/2 thermal you only have 1/2 kinetic meaning if your run into a hull heavy ship your not going to be able to do all that much other than snipe modules
