Is there a way to lose naval rank?

Hello everybody,

I have a very specific problem here...
During the last week we apparently had a wee bug infestation concerning naval progression.

Poor me was trying to polish my IMPERIAL NAVY rank to Baron, starting from Knight... over the course of about 5 naval missions, during which I gained and lost rank in our glorious Emperor's navy, I finally reached my targetted Baron ranking, yay...

but somewhere along the way I have been enlisted into the dreaded FED NAVY and promptly promoted to Chief Petty Officer (ok, they know my worth, it's a start I guess... ).

I filed a bug report and let FD know that I'm no traitor, won't work for them Feds and really wish to be demoted to "None"... of course I got no reaction whatsoever...

So, my question again:

Is there any ingame way to lose your naval rank? I really don't care if I have to blow up Rainbow Station, dump 300 tons of biowaste into Earth's orbit or go kamikaze against the Federation for Empire Movement! Just show me the way, pleeease!

Speculation: Off of the top of my head, I would say, no; not doable. However: There are rumours of high profile; the heads of power play, roaming about, in standard class ships. Rumour is; you can't catch them. But I would say, or ask, what if you could or did, take one out? Attacking a high raking officer, equals demotion, in most of the services.
