Is there a way to refuel your supercruise/normal thrust fuel without docking?

NOT hyperdrive fuel...I have a fuel scoop for that. But I've fitted a Sidewinder up to be able to make 16.80ly jumps and I'm going far out into the fringes toward a nebula I want to see...but I'm having issues because there's no way to scoop fuel for supercruise/thrusters, and it does eventually get used up no matter how hard I conserve it. Makes deep space exploration virtually impossible once you leave human space and don't have the luxury of starports.

Am I missing something here?

It's supposed to refill automatically from the main tank. Have you actually managed to run it empty (lost thrusters/FSD) while there was still fuel in the main tank? If so then I would ticket that as a bug.

I did this yesterday, as long as you have fuel in your main tank it refills the reserve when the reserve runs empty.

I had very little reserve left and I was starting to panic that I would get stuck, then pop, reserve was full again.

As everyone says, the reserve refills from the main tank.
Which is fine but it would be kind of handy if the fuel scoop also topped up the reserve tank - before or after the main I'm not entirely sure but it would be handy. I like to head out fully fuelled up and you can't do that with scoop at the moment.
Turning that around it would be handy to have the option to dump fuel from the main tank (to extend jump range) and/or force a refill of the reserve tank...

you would have to travel for real-time YEARS to reach for example another star in supercruise.

That isn't really anything to do with what the poster asked, but I'm also going to point out that it's incorrect anyway. You can get up to at least 2000c in supercruise when well clear of any bodies. At that speed a light year can be covered in about four and a half hours. Many people have tried supercruising between systems during the betas. The problem isn't that it takes too long to attempt, but rather that when you get there, the game hasn't actually loaded the new system so you don't see anything.

I think eventually they will introduce in space fuel ships you can land or lock onto or even travel inside them

Oh! Fantastic then. I haven't actually run it dry yet, just coming close. Great news, thanks everyone. Now all we need is some method of repairing damage to our ships without a starport, then we can truly be self sufficient deep space explorers.

There is a tool for that, at least there was in Beta, looks like a 25K screwdriver

Yes I was thinking this yesterday. We need repair drones that can deploy and repair our ships at some convenient moment. Otherwise we can't really go too far away from the nearest star port.

Yeah, teamkill above said there's a tool for it, but right now that tool is incredibly, incredibly rare, and it uses "charges" that can only be refilled at a starport...so it's still not really any good for long-term deep space exploration. As it stands right now, you cannot really go far from civilized space before you're either forced to turn back or eventually destroyed (from many various things that could possibly happen).

I had a play around with the auto repair module and is seems it only fixes internal modules too - not hull damage from accidentally cooking your ship on a sun for instance
