Is there a way to see temperature and distance in the FSS?

I noticed a scale on the left of the FSS that would be really helpful for seeing how far away signal sources are, but I can't figure out how to make it display anything. I checked in keybinds and I can't see anything I'm missing. Any ideas?

The FSS is a bit inconsistent, if you are zoomed out on a SS or a body you'll see a temperature and distance for either one. If you zoom in on a body the info remains, if you zoom in on a SS the info disappears. Distance while zoomed in on a SS would be nice, don't want to travel 10,000 Ls for degraded emissions if I can find one much nearer. Otherwise you are zooming in on a SS to see what it is, then zooming out to determine the distance, then zooming in again to target it
 
Yeah stuff like that blows the mind.

Either different people are designing it and don't care.. or developers are so limited in what they can do that populating a field sitting right there on their screen wasn't something that you'd naturally reach out and do. If it was just carelessness... at some point getting paid money must count for something... its not like elite is free from our perspectives.

I think that's a bit unfair. This is arguably the biggest game that's ever been made. I don't know if you've ever tried to coordinate a lot of people to achieve a complex project, but in my experience it's very easy to miss little things.
