I believe the game now adjusts to make sure your jump-in point is not in the middle of a jet, so if you throttle down before arrival and only aim for the tips of the jets, you should be perfectly fine. Problems where you might get stuck on neutron stars could occur when:
- You're scooping in a jet (or trying to hyperspace to another system from inside a jet) and you get a server disconnect. Attempting to log back into the game in such a situation will almost certainly result in ship destruction, as the game will dump you inside the jet while in normal space and it's virtually impossible to escape from a jet from normal space. You'd have to contact support to get them to move your ship.
- In those very rare instances of binary neutron stars, where the jet of the secondary NS is pointing more or less right at the other and enveloping the jump-in point. The game checks for impact with binaries, but not with any jets those binaries might be emitting. I've never actually seen near-contact binary neutron stars, but I've seen a black hole and two neutron stars, so I assume it can happen.
I've made dozens of neutron star superscoops during my current exploration trip. None of them have tried very hard to kill me.
