Is there anything new in Odyssey for non-on foot players?

Hi, I've not finished downloading Odyssey yet as I've just got 3.5Mb/s ADSL so got about 10% downloaded last night... I'll get there eventually.

I'm not especially fussed about the on-foot stuff however, and for all of you who already have it, is there anything new in the update for the rest of us?

There were rumours of new SRVs and ships, but I've not seen any confirmations.

Thanks all :)

Oh, and if anybody's wondering why I'm downloading Odyssey when I'm not interested in the on-foot stuff.. I'm a lifetime expansion pass owner.

Bit early days maybe to know? People still finding their .. feet?

LEP kickstart backer here too .. I'm finding the walkies to be fun. Just cut open a panel on a crashed satellite to get the memory core, which it's only SRV play +1 so you might be surprised yet.

Even if you don't do anything, stepping out for a walk kind of expands the world.

Not really. There apparently were absolutely no "surprises" at all. We got everything we saw in the Alpha and the other things we were told about well in advance (like the plasma guns, etc)

If you played the Alpha, this is pretty much the same thing, nothing really new beyond on foot stuff... except that horrible new gal map/system map/outfitting screens/menus

The new surface life you can get Codex scans from the ship/SRV. In general - small sampling so far - I think the new terrain is generally more interesting.

The move to signal-source-like surface POIs is generally pretty good, too. You need to get out of the SRV to make the most of them [1] but there's still a fair bit you can do just in the SRV. General Horizons-style surface missions are also a bit improved by this.

The new surface bases do have minor trade/exploration uses (especially in some BGS contexts) just by landing a ship at them, and you can take part in the new surface CZs from your ship.

Other than that, it's all basically on-foot stuff.

[1] As someone who doesn't have much general interest in the on-foot stuff either, the salvage and exobiology bits integrate the foot and ship/SRV bits sufficiently well that "while I'm there", sure, I'll get out and have a closer look.

The missions and concourse are so much more compartmentalised that I doubt I'll do them very much once the novelty wears off.
