Is there anyway to force NVIDIA (1080ti) + Oculus Rift CV1 into full range?

As per title, I'm at my wits end trying to get my nvidia graphics card, had this issue with the 970 as well as the 1080ti that replaced it, into full range? In my nvidia control panel the rift isnt listed, and the monitor (hdmi --> 65" 4k HDR samusng TV) is showing output dynamic range a "Limited" and greyed out.:S I've got the displayport --> HDMI convertor for the rift, which doesnt help the blocky blotchy blacks, and switched that to the TV but still shows as limited.

There was an article in PCgamer where someone had made a reg hack, but the link to that doesnt work now, if anyone reading this has it could you share it?

This is what I do, but no guarentee this really works. I do have a feeling though that colours are more vivid after the following steps. Still, it could also be just Vodoo ;)

I plug the monitor into the port where the Rift is usually plugged in. Then go to Nvidia CP and set to full range. Unplug monitor and replug Rift. Done.

Thanks for the reply but thats what I tried, but I cannae get the monitor into full range regardless of what port I plug it into :(

ah, sorry... missed that part. Not sure why that is happening. Maybe the cable does not support the "full bandwith"?

This may or may not help...
If you are on Windows 10 goto settings and under display ensure HDR is switched off and then in Nvidia control panel choose to use Nvidia settings. Apologies for not being clearer this was sent while out so can not check the specifics

It's a Samsung 4K TV? You need to go into the picture settings of the TV(I think under advanced - it may not be caller full range - oh, and set your picture to "movie" mode, with Warm 2 as the colour temp - it's a much nicer, more natural set up.) . I'm not in front of a Samsung right now, but will be tomorrow when I install one, can do a quick "path" to get there from when you press the menu button if you haven't figured it out by then.

Z..

OK so thanks for all the help, I've made SOME headway with it:

  • I've found if in the Nvidia Control Panel under "Display" then into "Adjust Dektop Colour Settings" at the bottom of that page if I change "Content type reported to the display" from "Auto Select" or "Desktop Programs" to "Full-screen Videos"
  • then go back to "Change Resolution" which is the page with the "Output Dynamic Range" pull down on it, I can change output colour format to RGB (this change is enabled by the "Fullscreen video" tweek previously it was only showing YCbCr option)
  • Then and only then with those two tweaks above made can I select "Full" from the "Output Dynamic Range" pull down menu.

Next question - how do I enable full dynamic range on the rift to stop the almost black blotches of deep space that only show on the rift but not on the screen?

If it is a Samsung you can normally press the 'source' button and then either rename it to 'PC' or sometimes they have it already set as an option you can select. This switches the TV in to optimal mode which turns off a lot of the processing junk and decreases latency and lag for PC usage. This should also allow you to set RGB and full range in Nvidia control panel.
