is there other ways to get sulfur instead of being "made" to go run about in an srv ??

I think you can get it as mission rewards, but honestly, you're better off going prospecting in your srv. You're almost certain to find some in less than 5 minutes of plodding around planet side. I tend to ignore the stuff now since I have so much of the stuff. Same goes for iron.

Just mine pristine metallic rings.
And you don't even need a Refinery, just a Mining Laser and some Collector Limpets. You can hoover up a lot of the common materials in no time at all.

EDIT - I think, for the common elements, just about any metallic/rocky ring will do. Doesn't need to be pristine.

really? so the srv option is literally an option ??

Yes. You can't get all of the elements in rings, some of the rarest are just not there, but most of them can be found that way.

It depends on whather or not you're going to put some serious time into using the engineers - if you check the Inara section for components and filter by surface prospecting, there are quite a few materials that are only available on planet surfaces. If you want to get the best mods you'll need to use the SRV at some point. It's easy to prospect once you know how to use the wave scanner.
