Is there some easy to find, compact information about Thargoids, Outfitting, Aegis, Inra and all?

EDIT: As there is a certain tendency of people just reading what they want to read: This post is not about how to meet some Thargoids or exact information about them or aliens at all. It is about a bad documentation process of lore for later players. If you feel the need to answer to someone with things like "it's all in the forum on XY", call your wingman. :D But, please read this post before answering. Thank you.

I really wonder how new people (or people like me, who do not have the time to follow huge forum posts for the lore and parts of a puzzle) are supposed to play things like Thargoid interaction or explorations runs (like that Formidline Rift Mysteries). The latter I tried to make some sense of, but if you weren't in the middle of these things right from the start, your chances are really bad to get into it.

Now I have the feeling, that the whole Thargoids gameplay goes somewhat the same direction. More and more "lore" is added with a lot of background information and forum fuzz, and people getting into it later on will have some hard times just finding out what to do.

I know there is some useful and compact info now on Wikia, but that's an awful site spamming me with tons of advertising overlays that are impossible to close on some (my) mobile devices. And I require to read background information on the train, as I'm on the train 2 hrs each day.

Also, there are some other wikis and websites about this topics, but I still feel like I'm not getting a start. So, is there any compact background information on all these things? I mean, is there any SYSTEM in DOCUMENTING things? Or am I just missing out something trivial that everyone else sees?

Thanks, but that's exactly the form of information that is not helpful for newbs. I really really really appeciate that you tried to help and that GluttonyFang did all the work there -- but please read this post with the eyes of someone who does not know anything about all of these things. With this post as starting point, I now have to google every second word right from the first line to make sense of it.

This thread should be in the aliens subforum, which is also the place to search for your answers - well, apart from outfitting - not sure why that is in your word list :)

The stickies in the subforum discuss the topics you list.

I'm trying to keep a faq for 2.4 (in Sig), but that doesn't attempt to give a current story line, as it's still evolving - though it does list "stuff that has happened"

Edit: the INRA first post is good - most of the other stickies you are better just reading the ends and asking as the first posts are not getting updated (faq is the opposite, ignore everything after the first post as anything useful had been added there)

Hi, outfitting is on my word list, because, well, as far as I understood you need some special outfitting for Thargoids? Weapons, scanners, things... Also, I strictly disagree. I do not ask explicit questions on alien encounters here, but I'm asking how to find information in general and what the concept of this sort of gameplay (forum based lore that hardly lasts for later on players) is.

Try this one. https://canonn.science/codex/ Everything's in there, it's regularly updated, and you don't have to wade through, as you put it, Forum fuzz. :)

Front pages of the stickied threads at the top of the Aliens section

This is not helpful, sorry mate. Rinse your memories about Thargoids. Read it, read again. Wonder. Example?

The thread OP "INRA base discoveries" did not tell me anything I could deal with.
The thread OP "Guardian Discussions" did not tell me anything I could deal with.
The thread OP "Alien archaeology and other mysteries: Breaking News, Theories and Tinfoil Hattery" gives me a list of "old threadnaughts". Is this information at all? Is it compact?
The thread OP "Thargoid Interactions" starts with "The newly available Xeno Scanner allows players to scan the Thargoid and reveal it as a Cyclops Variant. It also reveals that it has four hearts that are selectable as sub targets." and continues that style. It gives some hints of how interaction could play out if I ever meet a Thargoid, somewhere. With cargo.

Let's save some time. It continues like this.

I usually keep up-to-date via Obsidian Ant's videos. Short, informative and fun to watch - just the right amount of context for me. Maybe for you, too?

I have to check them. I'd rather like it written, as I can read on the train, search the text, follow links etc. Videos is a bit inconvenient to me. Anyhow, I'm pretty sure ObsidianAnt has some brilliant info in his videos. If I find the time...

Hey wait. Probably I shouldn't start threads right after 10hrs work in the first place, but did I really start this thread in Exploration subforum or was it moved for some odd reason??

I am still a new player and I am having a good time with the game. That said, having to go outside of the game for some of the lore and story disgusts me. It is my opinion that that is horrible game design. I literally hate that about the game, and I do mean hate.

I've been around a while and there's heaps of stuff I know little about. I do watch Obsidian and he mentioned the Inara thing the other day but I agree with the OP. Finding 'readers digests' is hard. I also prefer reading than videos.....darn sight easier to look back 2 or 3 lines when you realise you didn't get something than try and rewind a youtube by the exact amount on a bouncing bus.
I personally think FD should be putting together the overall summary that can be read both in and out of game.

Real life - all the information about that is third party.

When you are done with Elite; can I haz ur stuff?

Listen I agree that I’d like an in-game encyclopedia of sorts of important discovered locations, areas, etc. but even so not having it won’t make me quick the game.

I think the OP has a point.

There is a lot of fantastic information on the forum and there are some real domain experts here with deep knowledge who have invested a lot in a number of very detailed "subject home" threads. Their instinct on being presented with a query is to refer to those threads. I understand that.

Some of those threads are not immediately accessible, though, and often assume a lot of prior knowledge.

I would love to go off and try and find a new barnacle of my own and I know that people like PanPiper have distilled down exactly what conditions to look for but I don't know where to find that. I can ask, but the answer will be a link to a Canonn page or forum thread and that will have eight links to six other pages and two spreadsheets.

I'm thinking about offering to curate an explorer's guide to finding organics when striking out into a new area. A single page (hopefully) detailing what conditions to be aware of to find brain trees (those, I can do), bark mounds and barnies / Tharg Structures etc.

Maybe.

"Soon".
