Is there such a thing as volcanic planets with no atmosphere?

I have started to watch out for these as I thought landing on a volcanic planet would make for some cool screenshots. They're not coming up, so if they exist they must be extremely rare.

There are, of course, planets with limited visible volcanic activity in Elite.

The trouble is that any more extensive volcanism sooner or later creates atmosphere. Which would be bad. :D

As soon as there is, I'll be sending you a screenshot from the surface. The fiery red "hell" worlds are on my bucket list.

Almost immediately after posting this I found Phae Aeb HK-L b23-0 A 5 a which is landable and lists "carbon dioxide geysers" under volcanism. I am on the surface looking now. So am I going to find any geysers or not?

You are, but it would be an extremely lucky coincidence. I explore a lot and I traveled thousands of kilometers on surface of volcanic planets, but I ever only saw geysers that somebody else discovered and shared their location. Never found them on my own. I suspect the geyser locations on every planet can be counted with fingers of one hand.

Yes, if it says there are geysers on it and you can land on it then they can be found. It is literally like looking for a needle in a haystack though, as the only tool you have to actually find them is your eyeballs, so good luck!

However, if you could land on it then that planet is not a volcanic planet. It may have volcanism on it, but that does not make it volcanic, but rather just geologically active. Two different things.

If you mean volcanic as those planets with oceans of lava visible on the surface then yes, rarely, they can be found without an atmosphere, however they are not classed as landable bodies (just as there are Ammonia Worlds with no atmosphere that are also not landable). It will be a long time, sadly, before there are fluid flows or standing bodies of liquid in Elite Dangerous and nothing like this was mentioned in FX2017 so I would not expect it to happen in the Beyond series of updates. After that, who knows - but that is a long way off.
