Is this a Bug or is Space life really this unforgiving

I was docking using the Docking computer, but got stuck behind a spaceship while inside the letterbox the loitering countdown started, but my ship had cleared the docking port and was on the way down to my pad but the count down was still continuing, any way it ended in a bang lost cargo and Cobra but had the money for insurance just out 400k in cargo. Is this a bug and should i ticket this ?

Won't be much point in ticketing it as FD already know about it, since the AI when landing in this game has been terrible since I started during Private beta. I have never bought a docking computer because of the stories I have heard during my time here.

Ticket it anyway, but I doubt it will get fixed anytime soon.

I just land by myself, not tried the docking computer.
I think the countdown ends when you are completely landed and menu comes up.

So i should of aborted land and headed back out, I'll try that the next time

Just abandon the docking computer altogether, that's what I would do. It's more likely to get you killed in a slow and aggravating way.

Docking gets easier the more you do it, and it saves you more time doing it manually.

That's my advice.

I don't know if this is what you are talking about, but I do think it is unrealistic for a space station to blow you out of the sky because you took to long to land, I think a fine would be more realistic.
I don't think any airports in the real world employ anti-aircraft missiles to use against planes that dont get off the runway quick enough.

Unfortunately, this is the only way the game has to prevent griefing players around the landings. Otherwise people would go to stations and just tie up the letterbox and pads to prevent people from landing. No, the airport authorities do not have AA measures, but they also do not have to deal with people flying at 500 feet to stop others from landing.

I like to use Docking computer so i can check market data on laptop, make a cup of tea it save time, i dont have problem's docking manually in fact I've never crashed the only stupid thing i've done is take off and fire my guns when i grab my joystick while drunk

I had a similar issue right around release. A big freighter got wedged in the lattice at the entrance to the station. It was in there sort of sideways and diagonal, there was no way to get a Cobra past that and outside before the 5 minute timer expired, so I lost my ship and all it's cargo, plus the fines and insurance.

Put in a ticket, but I honestly don't expect anything out of it.

Docking computers in this game can be pretty stupid. I've had them try to dock me nose down in the bay, or instead of going through the entrance, they try to dock through the hull of the station.

Like with quite a few other issues though, it's a crude solution like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.
Even slightly more sophisticated responses would alleviate the vast majority of problems for genuine players - like escalating fines, proportionate to ship size and finally ship destruction after numerous warning.

It's true that determined griefers would work around this, such as by making new characters constantly (though you could put a timer on that, too) - but in a game with a very spread out player base and a switch to solo option, the consequences even of successful griefing are easily worked around by players. I think the current station reactions are worse than player griefing, and more common.
