Is this deserving of a request to reimburse my rebuy?

I'm not particularly worried about the cash - I have plenty of rebuys - but I'm not convinced this was deserving of actually killing me.

So... interdicted by an NPC whilst FSD was in the process of charging. FSD finished charging, I get the message to align with target destination. So I do. Then I get the message to align with escape vector. So I do. Then I get the message to align with target destination. One of these or the other should take hold, but neither of them did.

So unsurprisingly I fail to high wake and also fail to escape the interdiction. Was forcibly dropped into normal space, but managed to survive long enough (barely) to charge FSD again. Then I'm stuck on "align with target destination" again. For several seconds. Long enough, in fact, for the NPC to kill me.

I managed to capture that last bit on vid:

I'm aware my FSD malfunctioned, but that was a full 4 seconds after I should have already been in hyperspace (plus the two or three more seconds it took me to figure out what was going on and hit record).

I'm open to opinions. Should I request a refund or just let it go? EDIT: Or, at the very least, should I submit a bug report?

I'm sorry to say that everything seems normal to me.

A highwake can only happen when you're facing and travelling towards the destination. You can face it at any time during interdiction, but unless the escape vector lines up you won't actually be travelling in that direction. In the part you got on video your vector was above the destination at first, the high wake initiated as soon as you were on the right path, but malfunctioned.

It's easy to not notice when flying small ships which change direction very quickly. But definitely a major consideration when you're flying a big ship that wants to drift when you turn at boost speed.

Incorrect. You are stuck on "Align with Ship Trajectory".

This means your ship is not travelling in the direction your ship is facing, and is different to "Align with target destination". The T9 is a heavy ship and takes a long time to correct for inertia when changing direction significantly. Afterburning corrects this quickly, but unfortunately for you the NPC damage caused an FSD failure *before* you hit the afterburner.

If you want to replicate this condition, travel in a direction *other than* towards your hyperspace target, charge your FSD, engage FA-off and then turn towards your target.

So no, I don't think there's anything to reimburse you for. There is no bug here.

(quick summary)

"Align with target destination": You are not facing your hyperspace target.
"Align with ship trajectory": You are facing your hyperspace target, however your ships direction of travel is not towards the hyperspace target.

Here's a video showing the difference. In this I:
- Align off-target and get to max speed.
- Charge my FSD up (which then shows "Align with target destination" warning)
- Turn FA-off, which allows me to turn to the jump target *without* changing my direction of travel. This shows the "Align with Ship Trajectory" warning.
- Turn FA-on, which begins making my ship change it's direction of travel towards the target.
- Inertia means this change takes a few seconds before the jump can occur.

That makes sense, thank you. Although, the time for a T9 to realign must be measured in minutes, because I had been flying straight for at least the full 40 seconds it takes for the FSD to cooldown. EDIT: actually, now that I think about it, I wasn't flying straight. I was applying vertical thrust in the (vain) attempt to shake off the attacker's aim. So never mind, your answer makes perfect sense.

Just before you die, I spotted a "FSD disrupted" message on the info panel. Maybe, just maybe the npc was using fsd containment missile from Grom? didn't have the "pleasure" to experience them in the wild yet... I'm almost sure NPCs use prismatics, so why not these?
