Is this unusual for a gas giant?

Hey CMDR's. I got my Asp and headed out on a short preliminary expedition to acclimate myself with exploring. Glad I did this as I learned some things "not" to do. Like not try and repair a particular thing while in super cruise. Yeah.
In any event, once I return from this quick journey I will post up a report and give mention to each person whom helped me get over the humps learning the game and gaining knowledge along the way.

For right now I have run into a system with a strange gas giant. At least, strange to me.
It was weird because as I was drawing near to it I began to see its rings from a very long ways away. As I drew closer I wondered, where is the planet that goes along with this. For a second, I thought my game bugged out. Perhaps more than a second. It took a while to start seeing the planet involved.
In any event, as I drew nearer I noticed the planet still had regular rings too, just like all the other ringed planets I have seen thus far. As I got even closer I realized all six of the planets moons were on orbit "within" the outer set of rings. Kind of crazy to me.

I realize its probably not unusual, but I really wanted to ask just to see. I am going to put some picks up. Please note, in the latter pics, the brighter dots near the center planet are actually the planets moons, though I realize I didn't get a shot of them up close.
So, rare or no? Like I said, probably not as I haven't seen that many systems yet really. My plan was to head to the California Nebula and then home for the trial run. I have hit the California Nebula and and doing a few random jumps somewhere near it before heading back.
Regardless, I will share the details of this and my entire trek once I am back and have compiled all my info.
Here are the pics. (Please don't hate on the quality, these aren't glamour shots, just quick screen grabs to show.)
This looks a whole lot better in game BTW.

And for the heck of it, this might be the first star with my name on it: (If I get to turn it in first.) :)

Well CMDR's, in any event, unusual or not. I am immensely enjoying the game. Can't wait to get back and share this short trip with everybody. Then I can head out on the real journey.

Considering astronomers have recently found a gas giant with a ring set that would be visible from Earth if it replaced Saturn's I'd say just about anything is possible.

Amazing find OP! +1 rep :)

I think this is fairly rare, yes. Perhaps an astronomer could confirm, but I believe these would be called "Shepherd Moons"? I may very well be wrong though!

Thanks everyone. So its not something I will see a lot of. That is pretty cool.

I looked up Shepard Moons CMDR Edgar, that is indeed what has happened in my pics and FalconFly's above. Nice. I guess it is because of the moons that this happens.
Great Pics by the way, FalconFly.
