Is un-sold system scan data kept server side?

I have been out exploring and scanning a long time. I have not been back to the bubble (or any remote station) to sell scanning data in a long time. In fact this is the third PC hardrive I have had to install Elite on due to failures. I just plotted my local journal files in ED Astrometrics. I notice less than 10% of my data is plotted. I am worried all the scans I took on previous hard drives are lost. I do note that my personal markers I placed all show up correctly in the game galaxy display. My question is if the un-sold scan data is kept server side? I think and hope it is. If it is not kept server side then I am screwed. Anyone know for certain?

There's 2 parts to this. The systems you've scanned and not sold yet are kept server-side, so you'll get paid for them when you come to sell along with relevant tags (assuming you don't die beforehand).

The journals themselves are not kept server side though*. So if you've no backups of them you won't be able to plot your route using EDAstro etc. Consider regular backups of the journals for the future. If you don't already use one of them, grab EDDLite / EDD / EDMC, or any other tool that exports your journals to EDSM on the fly - whilst EDSM can't replace your journals it can preserve your travel history. Also consider something like Journal Limpet which can store your journals online, and additionally send them to EDSM too.

[*] Technically, journals are kept for a brief period, maybe 30 days, and is the mechanism used by Journal Limpet to retrieve them.
