Looks like you are forced to use motion controllers + standing VR exclusive? It is no surprise it failed. All games like that will fail and will continue to fail. Nobody wants to stand around flailing their arms for hours.
As someone who stands around flailing my arms for hours (well, about 2 hours as that’s how long my Quest 3 battery lasts) I disagree 😁 Also, the game didn’t fail - “It did okay, and it continues to sell, but we thought it would sell more…”
VR has been the best thing to happen to my gaming time (I got my first headset in 2017), and I started in the late 70’s at a Space Invaders cabinet.
Anyway, they have the exact numbers of ED VR players... and they decided not to invest more in VR in ED - this should speak volumes, more than anything else.
…but there were/are enough VR users that they changed their minds about the initial announcement of zero VR for Odyssey.

Compared with the non-vr market, the vr gaming market is really niche 🤷‍♂️
If it wasnt, i would be the one begging fdev to make a non-vr odyssey

I'm not sure you even read what I wrote, but nevermind.

OMG :) my Parents owned a Hotel in a town called southport and they got one of the cabinets installed when they came out.
I had a key and spent far too many hours during the rainy out of season winters playing that thing :)

That and roller skating :)
I’m a Lancs lad so I’ve been to Southport a number of times - but my first encounter with Space Invaders was at a camping site in North Wales. I was only a nipper so I had to stand on an empty milk bottle crate to see the screen and I was only allowed to feed it coins on rare occasions, but I knew when I saw it that this was something special 😅

It’s been cool to watch all the advances over the years and there have been a few paradigm shifts for me as to what games can be - and stepping into VR was perhaps the biggest.

Im 57 was born in 1966.
Ive played many types of computer games over the years I think the first I played was a Binatone Tennis me and my Brother got it for for Xmass.
Like you say watching and enjoying all the progress over the years has been great.
I too find the VR experiance or at least the recent one from meta etc to be a massive progresion.
I wonder If Ill live long enough for contact lens VR or implants or something simlar :)

I do prefer the sitting and playing type of VR though. But thats cause im fat and old :)

I first ran into VR in the early 90's at the Trocadero centre in London... I'd wanted it for me since - so when I got the Oculus Rift (also around 2017, I think) it was nearly 25 years of dreams realised!

ahh the good old binatone @ home :) most of my childhood was playing table top galaxians in the halls of college, during my years of horticulture enlightment....... never did get any certs or grades for horticulture i wonder why :)

I visited Southport on holiday once, I remember a couple of things one was it was so hot the soles of my plastic sandals started to melt the other was how far it was from the seafront to where you could see the sea in the distance.
I don’t remember when it was but mid 1960’s would be about right.

Same. Even if I didn't get motion sickness from trying to play non-cockpit seated VR games, I'd still prefer to have the full room scale + motion controller experience. It's a much more immersive experience being the one actually doing the actions, as opposed to using a controller or KB/M to do things.

Yea, i thought i was confirming that seemingly there is not a vr market big enough to make vr development profitable for ED

Guess i could have replied with just an: IKR 😂

However, if you meant about mobile vr not being niche - i disagree - just compare the number of people that do own a quest3 to the number of people that have a mobile and a game on that mobile. 🤷‍♂️
