Is Zeta Universe Finishing something new in Elite Dangerous ?

I was headed down below the galactic plane under the bubble to begin exploring in my jumpaconda ...i got to the Clota system where i was going to start heading out to do some exploring when i noticed a signal on my discovery scanner i had not seen before.....it was behind planet 5a and was not on the system map ....
the signal was named Zeta Universe Finishing ...so i headed that way it was in a very tight orbit to the non land-able planet 5a .... when i dropped out of super cruise there was an installation there ..so i pulled in close to do a datalink scan but before i could get close enough a ship started blasting me to hell ...since this is a stripped down explorer vessel i was not going to last long and ran like hell..
I got a message from the npc saying i was a criminal ..no warnings nothing he just came out blasting!
I have never seen this before, although i have only been playing a couple of months.... Anyone heard of this before?
Im going to go get a combat ship, blast that npc to bits scan that installation and see what the hell it is!!
I will update here once im done!

Ok so i went back with my combat ship and they didnt attack me this time when i jumped in.. this is a massive installation ....once you scan it ...hackable data points show up ..along with other points you can scan and attack ....probably some 30 items that are either hack able or destructable ....
so yeah i have no idea what this is...part of the game i have not seen before or is it something new? i dunno how to hack things in this game so i left...

You'll need a data hacking Limpet controller. There are lots of mysterious things you can find floating about in systems if you keep your eyes open ;)

I'll not spoil things by talking about what's behind the curtain, so to speak :)

Structures like this have been around since 2.3 (3 years ago) but they added a lot more of them in 3.2 (2 years ago)

It's a big game, there's a lot of things in it like this which have been there for a while but aren't heavily signposted [1]. It's often worth spending a couple of hours just looking around with no particular agenda, dropping in to signal sources and POIs that you'd normally head past, to see what happens.

Enjoy the exploration :)

[1] And because you can't earn 100M/hour from them, aren't frequently discussed here either.

My issue with these breadcrumbs that are scattered across the game is that they usually tend to play out very anticlimatically. I can't speak for the case at hand, but a few weeks ago I found one of those triple satellite puzzles way outside the bubble and followed the clues to an abandoned settlement. My reward: A handful of data logs with a bit of generic backstory concerning some personal drama, with no further consequence for the rest of the game. A good idea in principle, but I felt it could have been so much more.

Hi Guys
Many thanks for the replies and explanation!
i went and got recon limpets and went back but could not use them for some reason....not sure what you are supposed to do with it all, this platform is probably there for a mission or something!...there were data points you could scan then all kinds of other white boxes show up on the radar things like cargo bays and defense turrets , power capacitors....funny thing first time i found it in an exploration ship i got attacked right away ..went back with an A rated g5 engineered krait mark 2 outfitted for combat with an slf ..went back 3 x actually not once did the several npc pilots that spawned attack me..i was scanning everything being quite intrusive but nope they didnt come near ...just thought it was odd first time i jump in with a science vessel and dont even get near the platform and get shot to hell without any warning... then when i show up with a ship that would whoop them sideways they dont even dare to do more than a scan....is there actually a mechanic in the game where npcs go nah that guys gonna whoop me and oh easy kill science vessel whack lol?
I have only been playing a bit under 2 months but i have been pretty obsessive..i think i have 4 weeks worth of gameplay time in that two months! thats crazy an entire month was spent in game! ...i have some physical disabilities so im on early retirement and have too much time on my hands! love the game though its just awesome all around! In two months i have unlocked just about all engineers to G5 and have all the ships i want and half a billion credits in the bank , been to colonia and back, have all the guardian stuff so yeah a bit obsessive for such a short time in game haha

That does sound a bit anticlimactic! You found something unique way out far from populated space you would think there would be something unique at the end of the trail! Get excited that you found something new or different then just get rewarded with a few data sets ...i gotta agree with you...great idea really but poorly implemented! If explorers spend so much time looking for new unique things they should be properly rewarded when they score a find IMO ..

DO you guys know anything about the thargoid structures? i went to that crashed thargoid and anaconda site in the hip system ....got some thargoid sensors ..took them to that huge new site they found in june ...all the sensors seemed to do when carried in an srv was unlock two little short tunnels in the main structure that ended abruptly oh and there was a thargoid data point in there but not really worth the effort of getting the corrosion resitant rack and the rest ..im probably missing something? i spent several hours there but yeah thats all i found oh and a bunch of meta alloys ...easy place to farm a bunch of those! oh yeah one thing i did notice to do with the thargoid sensor in your hull....you know how in those systems filled with non human signal sources often the thargoids drop you out of a jump then hit you with that disabling pulse? well every time they did that to me without a thargoid sensor in my hull when the power came back on the thargoids were attacking me and i had to run away ..with the sensor in the hold they would all jump away after they shut me down rather than attack ...i also jumped into a non human signal source that earlier the little scouts in there blasted me down to 25 % health the second i jumped in ...this time with the sensor onboard they left me alone...so it seems like having a thargoid sensor in your hull is like a thargoid shield it protects you from the thargoids even with meta alloys in your hold!

one last quick question if anyone knows ..its about this forum..whenever i try to post a pic here i get a line through it after uploading hence cant post it.....i figured there was a size limitation so shruk the pics down to a very small size yet got the same issue...i read the png format was fine ..i even tried renaming the pictures inc case the forum does not like long names but yeah same deal ..anyone know the answer to that
one?

Try uploading them to a site such as Imgur and just post the link.

Tyvm Frogsfriend will do! have some pics i took while exploring i want to share the camera suite in this is amazing!

More sites to go to :)

i went and got recon limpets and went back but could not use them for some reason.
Recon limpets are a bit fiddly to use on these things.

1) Data link scan the entire structure to bring up the things like power capacitors as targets
2) Find one of these targets which looks like it might be usable for a recon limpet
3) Data link scan that target
4) Go to your subtarget menu and select the subtarget(s) that have appeared after the detailed data link scan
5) Fire a recon limpet at them (if they're not a valid recon subtarget, it just won't fire, try another main target type)

Then prepare to run, if the target wasn't designated Public :)

(Or hit silent running before the limpet attaches)
