Ehhhh... During the descending, 146 meters above the moon surface they lost contact with the spacecraft.
A few seconds before they had a major main engine malfunction and had to reset all systems. Main engine got back up, but another few seconds later they lost any contact. Permanently.
It crashed the moon surface most probably.

Heck no.. I've survived landing like that.. just.900m/s lateral, 134m/s vertical at LOS, 149m above the surface. I guess you could say it's "on" the moon, in about a million little pieces
Sounds like my usual experience with Lunar Lander...

Actually, the interesting thing about SpaceIL is that it's a private company - it's not a nation's endeavour. All previous moon landing attempts/successes/failures have been state funded - this was the first commercial enterprise to attempt to do so.
See the problem is they're trying to land on the other side of the moon where the alien base is. They won't allow it.
Clearly there was an update to the Stellar Forge during the landing process, and the moon's orbit was shifted. It now orbits Sol.
I don't envy anyone actually leaving Earth's orbit to travel through space, as with no atmospheric or ELW landing developed yet, they won't be able to return until at least 3rd quarter 2020.
