See the problem is they're trying to land on the other side of the moon where the alien base is. They won't allow it.

The truth is more sinister. According to the old Polish legend, a nobleman called Twardowski made a pact with the devil - in exchange for devil's services Twardowski was supposed to give up his soul. When the time come to fulfill the pact, Twardowski run away to the Moon to keep his soul for himself.

You might be joking, but you’re right! They said during the stream their positioning measurement precision was +/-100 m, which seem fairly little compared to all the distance the spacecraft had to travel to get there, still they crashed when the altitude was showing 149 m above the surface. Guess then this error margin was still to high.

Next time they try I hope that their altimeter system uses a 'sliding scale' of accuracy (dependent on distance to travel and speed). While there is more than 10KM to travel having an accuracy of +/- 100M is fine, less than 10KM (but greater than 1KM) the accuracy requirement goes up to +/- 10M, less than 1KM (but greater than 100M) the accuracy is +/- 1M, and anything under 100M the accuracy is +/- 10CM.
