Hi Commanders,
I got this game as a 47th birthday present from my wife after I gave numerous "obvious" hints that this was the only thing I wanted. This is now causing me problems and dilemnas I did not have pre Elite.
You see, I have a demanding and time consuming job to help support my family, which includes two teenage boys. That time could be better spent mining, trading, exploring the Milky Way and then fighting when I get the right ship and upgrades. When the boys are on the PC I am thinking of ways of getting them off so I can get on, such as creating new chores for them and reminding them they need to do more homework. Am I a bad dad for trying to boot them off the PC?
I love the sandbox element of the game and am trying to find a pristine belt to mine the good stuff. Just searching for a system and doing some exploration on the way just fills me with delight. But the big problem is I know I can sink so much more time and easily immerse myself for days on end, but this is not possible. For that reason I damn you FD for making this an incredible experience for me. Especially as we all know this game will develop beyond recognition in the following years.
This game is on my list of things to do when I retire and am now striving to retire earlier for this reason.
I recently bought a FPS just because I wanted to shoot things and hated being led from from one place to the next. Give me sandbox any day.
One final note is there any other middle age Commanders out there who wish to join up in game for little spare time they have?
Signing off
