Issues to be solved with PC/console players playing together

You may have already seen this, but David Braben told PCGamer today that there probably won't be cross-play between consoles and PC:

"I think the challenges for us, which sort of fights against it," Braben told PCGamesN, "is we’ve also said that we’ll continue to do updates across all platforms, and what we didn’t want was PC updates to be held up for whatever reason, like if there’s a delay on another platform."

So PC updates won't be held up by console patch certification. :)

Everyone would still use the same background simulation.

It makes sense when you factor in the game being held ransom by what would essentially be the publisher(MS). But is a shame nonetheless. I'd hate the PC game being held up for weeks while MS does QA testing before launching an update on the Xbox.

No cross play but if there is a shared universe then the discovery types on the Xbox will have a lot harder go of it as the primary routes and nearby nebula will have been scanned already.
