Issues with 4K

Hi Commanders. Having some strange issue with the game since switched to 4K monitor last month. When launching the game launcher would not switch to the client. I can see it as a tab on my taskbar and when I click on it manually it would take several attempts to actually open it in full screen. When I'm playing, there is no problems what so ever, running it at max settings. No stuttering, no freezes, everything is good and stable. If I Alt-Tab to Firefox to look at something on Inara it would take several attempts to switch back to game. When I'm not playing games I have my display set up with 2560x1440 resolution (when going above that all fonts and such is getting too small) and the game is running at 3840x2160. My PC is running Windows 10, i7-10700K (@4.8Ghz), 32G of RAM and RTX3070Ti with 576.52 driver. Appreciate any ideas.

not that i run 4k🤷‍♂️
jus chuking in my thoughts......
do thngs still switch(tab) at the same sluggish speed if the game and windows native res match?
does running fullscreen boarderless have any effect...........
in switching to a greater res possibly makes the gpu struggle briefly whilst resizing to hap hazzard a speculative guess
if so i would look at windows scaling options icon sizes etc so your windows is more aligned with that of the game rez

From what I see, switching between tabs running at the same resolution is not an issue. Even in the case with ED running at 4K it doesn't feel like GPU is struggling. I have no stability issues. What is happening is when I am switching between ED and something else it would switch from ED to (let's say) Firefox in a heart bit, and when I am trying to switch back to the game it wouldn't. I click on the ED tab on the taskbar (or Alt-Tab) and it brings that screen up for a moment and drops back to where I was, or the desktop. After several attempts it would eventually switch and works with no issues. Also, it happens when launching the game. It would drop back to the desktop and I have to manually switch to the ED screen and it takes several attempts.

I only have experience running Elite in 4k on an Alienware 15r3 laptop and a desktop with a 32in monitor. I have never had Elite not open unless I had clicked on another window. I'm pretty sure that if you click on anything after clicking play on the launcher, the game will just launch in the background. As for the game taking several tries to switch back, I have never had that happen. The only time iffy things happened when switching between the desktop and the game, I have determined is related to making windows think too hard about resolution scaling. I played Elite on my windows 10 laptop from update 2.3 The Commanders until Odyssey update 4.0.17.01. I ran windows at 150% because smallish laptop screen, ran Odyssey at 4k60, and had super sampling set to 0.5x (1080p). Making windows think about all this would cause a short hang when switching between the game and desktop.
On my windows 11 desktop, I have a 32in monitor. I run windows at 100% resolution scale, Elite at 4k120 and I super sample it to 1.5x. I have not noticed any notable lagyness on my desktop, but it is way more powerful than my laptop is.

The only things I can suggest are, make sure everything is operating at the same resolution and fps, and maybe try deleting the graphics config file.

Try running the game in borderless instead of full-screen.

And under System > Display > Graphics, try enabling "Flip Presentation Model" under "Optimisations for Windowed Games." (Note if you enable Auto HDR, that will force this setting on anyway.)

And 576.66 includes hotfixes for 576.52, so give that a go.

I had similar issues when I switched to a 4k monitor and ran everything but the game at 2560x1440. Alt/Tab produced a delay of several seconds and usually a black screen as the resolution changed. I now run everything at 4k and changed the scale in Windows settings to 125% (150% was recommended but felt too large for me). Elite is set to run 4k borderless and the only occasional issue I see is the mouse pointer as well as the game cursor to start and ctrl/esc before clicking into the game sorts that

That shouldn't be necessary. Windows support scaling of elements (such as text and icons): Open "display settings" (eg. from the context menu of the desktop background), make sure your display is selected in that dialog (if you have more than one) and scroll down to "scale": If you select a value larger than 100% then all text, icons etc. will be scaled larger (while retaining the native pixel resolution).

On that note, I myself use 100% scaling, ie. no scaling at all. The first time I got a 4k display I used Windows's default 150% scaling, but I relatively quickly dropped it to 125%, and some months later just to 100%. It's actually surprising how quickly you get used to the 4k resolution unscaled. It gives you so much more desktop space. Quite quickly any resolution lower than that feels cramped.

You're right. I changed desktop resolution to 4K and adjusted scaling (I found 175% scaling works best for my 27" monitor) and it fixed the issue. Switching back and forth between ED and desktop like a charm now.

I totally forgot about scaling function. With desktop set to 4K and scaling at 175% everything works as advertised. Your issue with two cursors usually happens to me when I launch the game and switch back to desktop to do something else, while game is loading. When I see two cursors I would switch to desktop and then back to game and default windows cursor goes away.
