Issues with standalone login when the game was purchased through steam

I can't login with the stand alone client.
My Frontier account doesn't acknowledge that I purchased the game.
Steam doesn't acknowledge that I have a CD key for this game.
I have 42 hours playing this game and I wish I had purchased it on day 1.

I took some screenshots that might help:

Notice there is no CDKEY option for ED.

My account didn't give me an option to download the standalone client, but I was able to download it through some cached google links.

I'm not sure, but it looks like my steam account is linked.

I had a similar issue when i purchased through Steam.

Unfortunately I don't have any direction for you as you've taken all the steps that I was going to provide (checking the linking of accounts).

I opened a support ticket and they were able to get me sorted out. Unfortunately it was like 6 months ago so i no longer have a record of what was done.
 
Simple answer.

You can't play it on the standalone launcher as after a certain point the game became steam activation only. You have to play it through Steam

The best thing to do is probably to make a Support request here...

Purchases of Elite Dangerous on Steam since April 2019 are "no CD key" versions. You have to use the Steam Login, you cannot run a stand alone launcher.

Since you say you have 42 hours playing the game you don't need the FAQs - unless you want to read the one that tells you about the change to no-cd keys.:


Note the:

"Elite Dangerous purchases made since April 2019 require your Frontier account and Steam account to be linked together and the STEAM LOG IN button to be utilised."

you have my sympathies...…………….
I think if you purchase again through FD and use your existing login that will allow you to use the stand alone or steam at the cost of rebuying the game and wasting a possible second account
not 100% on that mind you I think @Cmdr Nemo LXXI did it that way if mem serves me correctly

It looks like your account is not linked to Steam properly - I have an "Unlink from Steam" button on my Third Party Accounts page
 
HI. My problem is very simple, but i need somone from the company to fix actually fix it...
Horizons broke my Elite Game!
I could play fine, everything ran through steam and it was all fine, until the day I bought the Horizons expansion, on MAY 22ND 2020, and ever since then I have not been able to log into Elite Standard, or Elite Horizons! I have submitted multiple tickets to frontier starting about amount a month ago, but so far no one from the Frontier has done anything to fix my broken Frontier account, or responded to the tickets in any way. What do i do next? How long should i wait before should i ask for refund on steam? Will I qualify for a DLC refund since have not been able to play more than 0 hours since Horizons broike my Elite game?

Are you seriously suggesting its better to just pay for another copy of the game, than to try to get basic ordinary customer service help from Frontier? Dosen't that prove that Frontier is breaking the most basic agreements they agreed to when they signed on with the steam network ?
Seriously, is Frontier really that bad? That we now by default expect they to rip us off as a matter of course? This is all a joke right ? ? ?

no I would not do that personally and yes you are 100% right though I don't know of the agreement between fd and steam both need there heads knocked together as you say it should be TOTALLY unacceptable but corporate greed seems to be all the fashion these days...…………………...
a bad alternative yes completely, I was merely pointing out it is a rip off option to your current situation as I heard at least one other person has done this that I know of
I did not say you would like it and nor did I recommend it. I only stated an option that maybe I should not have even mentioned so sorry about that
remember also to some the price is pittance and they just don't care despite the principle of what is just not on really
I wish I could guide you through the things to try as it will work on steam for you its just a matter of getting things done in a maze of confusion to get it to work...……..
but I have never purchased through steam so just don't know the process
all I know is you need both an fd account and a steam one
that that those accounts must be linked
and then the games purchases somehow linked so one copy of horizons is linked with a base game account
then itsa process of using things like log off machine in the launcher options of the base game downloading horizons from the steam library page
then using its file validator then running the base game again then using log off machine again then validating again maybe then when your launcher changes from orange to blue your on the right track making progress I dunno think positive dude by all accounts most get it to work eventually like I said you have my sympathies
I cant guide you through it as I never did use steam to buy this game
